Notes for Joseph P. Bolas and Katherine Buczek

1907 Josef Bolaz (age 26) departed Antwerp, Belgium, on February 23 on the ship Kroonland and arrived in New York on March 5. He was Polish, his last residence was Piwniczna, and his intended destination was Buffalo, New York. [1]

1912 Katarina Buczek (age 22) embarked on August 22 from Rotterdam on the ship Uranium and arrived in New York on September 5. She was a subject of Austria and her last residence was "Keincawa," Austria (perhaps Kunkowa, Poland). Her nearest relative was her father Martelli Buczek in "Keincawa." Her intended destination was Buffalo, New York. [2]

1912 Joseph Bolas and Katarzyna Buszek were married on October 29 in Cheektowaga, Erie County, New York. [3]

1915 On June 1, Joseph (age 34) and Katherine (age 26) Bolas lived in Cheektowaga, Erie County, New York, with their children Louis (age 1) and John (age 33 weeks). Joseph was a carpenter. Joseph and Katherine were born in Austria. The children were born in the U.S. [4]

1920 On January 20, Joseph (age 40), John (age 33), and Catherine (age 29) Bolus lived on Weiss Street in Buffalo, Erie County, New York, with children Louis (age 7), Josephine (age 3), and Chester (age 1 6/12). Joseph and John were laborers in the railroad industry. Joseph's year of immigration was listed as 1906, John's as 1908, and Catherine's as 1913. Curiously, John was listed as the head of the household, Catherine as his wife, and Joseph as a boarder. The adults were born in Galicia, Austria, as were their parents, and their language was Polish. The children were born in New York. [5]

1930 On April 14, Joseph Bolox (age 48) and his wife Kathrine (age 42) lived on Muxworthy Road in Darien, Genesee, County, New York with son Louis (age 18), daughter Josephine (age 13), sons Chester (age 11), Leo (age 10), Edward (age 7), William (age 5), and Kaises (age 1 9/12), and daughters Mary (age 2 11/12) and Frances (age 4/12). Joseph and Katherine and their parents were born in Hungary and their language before coming to the United States was Polish. The children were born in New York. Joseph was a laborer in the railroad industry and owned his home. Louis was a laborer on a general farm. [6]

1940 In April, Joseph J. (age 57) and Catherine K. (age 52) Bolocs lived on Creek Road in Batavia, Genesee County, New York, with their children Chester (age 21), Leo (age 20), Edward (age 18), William (age 15), Mary (age 12), Clarence (age 11), and Frances (age 9). They had lived in the same place in 1935. Joseph and Catherine were born in Poland and the children were born in New York. Joseph was a farmer. [7]

1958 Joseph P. Bolas died on May 17 and was buried at Saint Joseph Cemetery and Mausoleum, Batavia, Genesee County, New York. He was born on March 17, 1882. [8] An obituary states, [9]

Joseph P. Bolas, 76. of Creek Rd., town of Batavia, a retired employe of the New York Central Railroad, died at his home at 2 p. m., Saturday (May 17,1958).
Mr. Bolas was born in Galica, Austria, March 17, 1882. He was a member of the Holy Name of Mary Church in East Pembroke and the Holy Name Society. He retired in 1948 after being employed by the railroad for 33 years.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine; six sons, Louis, Leo, William, Chester and Clarence, all of the town of Batavia, and Edward of Corfu; two daughters, Mrs. Frances Konieczko of Oakfield and Mrs. Mary Scheider of San Pedro, Calif.; a brother, Leon Bolas of Austria, and 11 grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. Clarence M. Wieler, died a number of yean ago.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:30 a. m. at the Gilmartin Funeral Home and at 9 at the Holy Name of Mary Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
The Holy Name Society will meet at the funeral home at 9 tonight to recite the Rosary. Friends may call at the funeral home.

1980 Catherine V. Bolas died on February 26 and was buried at Saint Joseph Cemetery and Mausoleum, Batavia, Genesee County, New York. She was born on November 4, 1890. [10] An obituary states, [11]

Mrs Catherine Bolas. 89, of 3007 Stegman Rd. died at 5 a.m. today (Feb. 28, 1980) at St. Jerome Hospital where she had been a patient 12 days.
Mrs Bolas was born Nov. 4, 1890, in Poland, the daughter of Marcyl and Caroline Gzievina Buczek. She came to this country in 1912. Her husband, Joseph, died in 1958. She was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church in East Pembroke.
Surviving are four sons, Chester of Buffalo, Leo of 3851 Rose Rd., Edward of 8849 Lovers Lane Rd., Corfu, and Clarence of 3007 Stegman Rd., two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Schneider of Jackson, Calif., and Mrs. William (Frances) Konieczko of Lockport Road, Oakfield; a brother, Thomas of Poland; two sisters, Mary of Buffalo and Sophie of Lyons, France; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Josephine, Louis and William Bolas.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a. m. Thursday at Holy Name of Mary Church. The family suggests memorials to the church or to the coronary care unit of St. Jerome Hospital. Arrangements were by Gilmartin Funeral Home Inc.
