Democrat and Chronicle, Rochester, New York, December 28, 1958. [9]

Batavian Killed Instantly in Corfu Train-Car Crash
Corfu, Dec. 27--William T. Bolas, 33, of the Pratt Road, Batavia, a field man for the Artificial Breeders Cooperative in Genesee County, was killed instantly at 11:14 a.m. today (Dec. 27, 1958) when his car was struck by a fast moving New York Central Railroad passenger train at a private crossing a half mile west of here.
Bolas died of multiple injuries, according to Dr. S. L. McClouth of Corfu, a Genesee County coroner, who issued a certificate of accidental death. The car was literally torn apart by the crash. The front portions were carried on the front of the locomotive for half a mile.
Scene of the tragedy was a private railroad crossing known as Etzold Road and leading from Route 33 to the barns on the Lavern Kruger and W. J. Etzold farms. It is unguarded and is used only by persons driving to the barns.
Bolas was northbound, having just left the barns where he had been called in connection with his work for the Artificial Breeders Cooperative. State Police, under the direction of Cpl. J. W. Lawrence of Alexander, and sheriffs deputies, Undersheriff Sanford L. Bock, blamed icy conditions of the roadway for the accident. They theorized that Bolas, alone, saw the eastbound passenger train approaching, but that his car skidded on the icy patch. When he saw he could not stop, Bolas apparently gunned the car in an effort to clear the tracks.
The eastbound train was traveling at 80 miles an hour, according to investigators. The body was taken to the C. B. Beach & Son Funeral Home in Corfu.

1959 Muriel and Ann moved to Brookline, Massachusetts. An article in the Batavia Daily News stated on April 1, [10]

Mrs. William Bolas. formerly of the Pratt Rd., and one time County home demonstration agent, has left for Brookline, Mass., where she and her daughter, Ann, will make their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton B. Watkins of 12 Parkway Rd., Apt. 3, Mass. In September Mrs. Bolas plans to return to Boston University where she will take graduate work in the general field of home economics. Her daughter, Ann, will be enrolled in nursery school.
Before leaving Mrs. Bolas gave as a memorial to her husband, the late William Bolas, a trophy for an outstanding boy or girl for achievement in dairying during the past year.
