Notes for Abner Page and Eliza Jane Banta

1849 Mr Abner Page and Miss Eliza Jane Banta were married in Darke County, Ohio, on September 16. [1]

1850 Abner Paige (age 22) and Eliza J Paige (age 17) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio. Several Banta families lived nearby. [2] [3]

1860 Abner Page (age 30, born in Ohio) lived in Pleasant Twp, Grant County, Indiana, in a household with Eliza E Page (age 26), Geo M Page (age 7), Wilber Page (age 6), and Hester Page (age 1). [4]

1862 Corporal Abner Page was discharged from Company F, sixty ninth infantry of Randolph County, Indiana on November 28. [5] [6] [7]

1863 Abner Page, of Thurman Twp, Sullivan County, Indiana, age 30, farmer, married, born in Ohio, was listed in draft registration records in June. [8]

Isaiah C Pickett purchased land from sisters Sarah Smith and Eliza Jane Page [9]:

1863 Sarah Smith, formerly Sarah Banta, and husband John Smith of Randolph County, sold land to Isaiah C Pickett, of Darke County, Ohio. The land was in Darke County, Ohio. The deed was dated on December 29. [10]

1864 Abner Page and wife Eliza Jane Page, of Sullivan County, Indiana, sold land to Isaiah C Pickett, of Darke County, Ohio. The land was in Darke County, Ohio. The deed was dated on November 1. [11]

1870 Abner Page (age 42) and Eliza J Page (age 36) lived in Turman Twp, Sullivan County, Indiana with children George M (age 17), Nathaniel W (age 15), Hesther (age 11), Emanda (age 8), Samuel R (age 4), and Adda B (age 2). [12] [13]

1871 Abner Page died on April 12 and was buried at Poplar Cemetery, Graysville, Sullivan County, Indiana. He had served in Co F, 69th Indiana Infantry. [14] The headstone is registered for a deceased Union veteran. [15] [16]

1872 Mr T Vantilburgh and Miss Eliza Jane Page were married on October 12, in Darke County, Ohio, by Joseph Eichelberger, JP. [17]

1876 The will of Eliza Jane Vantilburg [18] of Darke County was written on November 3 based on an account by C. T. Pickett (perhaps Charles T Pickett [19]) and A. J. Gribbin. The will named beloved children Hester Page, Emanda Page, and Addie Page; friend William Gashorn; and son Samuel R. Page. BTW Stuart was named executor. William Goshorn was to be appointed guardian of minor children Samuel R. Page and Addie Page. The testimony by Eliza was dated August 22. [20]

1876 A. J. Deniston, administrator of the estate of Eliza J Vantilburgh, petitioned the court, on December 9, to sell land from the estate of E.J. Vantilburgh. Eliza owned land in Darke County, Ohio. Her heirs at law were George M Page of age living in Illinois, who had no claim in the real estate; "Hester Page, Amanda Page, Samuel R Page, Emma Page living in the State of Illinois, and Eddie Page the last four mentioned are minors and residents of the County of Darke and state of Ohio". Land in Missinawa Twp was subject to a tax lein, paid by Frank McWhinny. "It is hereby certified, that Frank McWhiney at a sale of land delinquent for the non-payment of taxes on 1873 and 1874 in the Township of Missinara in said County Charged in the name of John Buff ... " N.G. Buff appeared in court, guardian of Amanda Page and Emma Page, and stated that Eliza Jane Vantilburgh and Thomas Vantilburgh her husband had executed their deed of mortgage on August 13, 1873, to the said guardian, payable in Union City, Indiana. W Allen was sworn and deposed that the above statements were true. Thomas Vantilburgh, husband of Eliza J Vantilburgh gave consent. A. J. Denniston, administrator was given consent to sell the land. The land was sold to J T Meeker and J. K. Riffle. Proceeds were distributed to the heirs. [21]

1880 Hettie Page (age 21, born in Indiana, single) lived in the household of William Goshorn in Union City, Darke County, Ohio. Hettie Page's parents were both born in Ohio. Hettie Page's occupation was general house work. [22]

1865 Abner Page was listed as a Peddler, 3rd Class in Sullivan County, Indiana. [23]

Who was Abner Page, born about 1852 in Indiana, who lived with Isaiah C. Pickett (son of Isaiah Hinson Pickett) in Darke County in 1870? See the 1864 deed, above. Could he be George M, son of Abner, incorrectly named on the census? George was also listed with his parents in 1870. Could he be an unidentified son of Abner's brother William Benton Page, whose children by his first wife Mary Ireton were cared for by other families after Mary died?

1870 Isaiah Picket (age 48, born South Carolina) lived in Union City, Ohio with wife Mary (age 46, born Ohio) and children Arthur (age 9 born Missouri) and Adella (age 8 born Ohio) with Abner Page (age 18, born in Indiana) in the household. [24] [25]
