1839 Noah Ruhl enlisted in the 5th Drag., U.S. Army on December 7. He was born in York, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer. He had hazle eyes, brown hair, fair complexion and was 5 feet 6 inches tall. His discharge date was January 27, 1840. [1]

1850 Noah G Ruhl (age 27, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Ann M Ruhl (age 26), and Edgar M Ruhl (age 9). [2]

1857 Noah G Ruhl was appointed postmaster in Shrewsbury, York, Pennsylvania. [3]

Perhaps Noah and Ann M[aria] Ruhl had separated by 1860:

1860 N G Ruhl (age 35) and sister Maggie Ruhl (age 25) lived in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania, with mother Catherine Ruhl (age 62, widow) and Catherine Smith (age 17). [4]

1860 Maria Ruhl (age 35, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Edgar M Ruhl (19), and Ada Ruhl (9). [5]

1861 Noah Ruhl, perhaps this one, enlisted September 19, 1861 for the Union Army in Pennsylvania. He was promoted to Full Lieutenant Colonel (Not Mustered). Enlisted as a Captain on September 19, 1861. Commission in Company D, 87th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania on 19 Sep 1861. Promoted to Full Major on May 9, 1863.He eReceived a disability discharge from Company D, 87th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania on 30 Aug 1864.

1863 Noah G Ruhl was taxed in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania [6].

1864 Son Edgar Monroe Ruhl died on October 19 at Middletown, Frederick County, Virginia and was buried at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury, York County, Pennsylvania. Edgar Monroe Ruhl was born on May 26, 1841. [7] [8]

The son of Noah G. & Anna Maria Ruhl. Never married, in 1860, he lived with his mother in Shrewsbury Borough, York County, and reported his occupation as cigar maker.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Shrewsbury August 31, 1861, with Co. D, 87th Pa Inf, a company his father commanded. Promoted to sergeant May 1862, to 2nd lieutenant October 25, 1862, and to captain of Co. D on April 20 1864, when his father was promoted to major. Assumed command of the 87th Pa Battalion on September 24, 1864, after the original three-year enlistees mustered out, thus reducing the regiment to battalion size. Killed in action and almost instantly at the battle of Cedar Creek.

1866 Noah G Ruhl was taxed as an auction salesman in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania [9].

1870 Noah G Ruhl (age 44), a dry goods merchant, lived in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania with Catherine (age 75). [10] [11]

1870 Daughter Ada C Ruhl (age 17, born in Pennsylvania) lived at Cottage Hill College in West Manchester Twp, York County, Pennsylvania, in a household with President Daniel Eberly (34), Prof. of Music D R Merkle (33), other faculty, and students. [12]

1872 Daughter Ada C. Ruhl was a student at Cottage Hill College in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [13]

1881-84 Major Noah G Ruhl was listed as the proprieter of the National Hotel at Market and Beaver in Boyd's York Directory 1881-1882 and 1883-84.

1886 Noah G Ruhl was listed as deputy sheriff York County jail in Young's York City and County Directory.

1890 Noah G Ruhl died on July 19 and was buried at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury, York County, Pennsylvania. [14] [15]

1905 Edgar R Busey [son of Ada Bussey] and Gertrude Day were married on April 10 in Vancouver, Clarke County, Washington. Edgar R Busey, son of Harry G Busey and Ada C Busey, was born about 1879 in Pennsylvania. [16]

1929 Ada C Bussey died on September 23. [17]
