1355 IPMs for Alice, late the wife of William Luscote, state,

Alice, late the wife of William Luscote.

Writ, 15 April, 29 Edward III.

Devon. Inq. taken at Barnestapele, Monday in Whitsun week, 29 Edward III. [25 May 1355]

Margaret, late the wife of Gilbert de Knoville, held for her life of the said Alice, John Dun and Thomas Achard, kinsmen and heirs of the said Gilbert, the following by service of 1d. yearly :—

Lodeswill. A messuage, two carucates of land, two water-mills, 100a. wood, 91. rent, 12a. meadow, a dovecot and rent of llb. pepper, held of William de la Zouche, lord of Torteneys, in pure socage, by service of 60s. yearly.

Yeddeforde. A messuage, a carucate of land, a water-mill, 9a. meadow and 60s. yearly rent, with the advowson of the church, held in chief of Hugh de Courtenay, earl of Devon, by service of half a knight’s fee.

Battesthorn. A messuage, a water-mill, two carucates of land. 15a. meadow, 12a. aldergrove and 13s. 4d. rent held in chief of the aforesaid Hugh by service of half a knight’s fee.

Milton Damarle. Richard de Stapeldon, knight, holds for his life by the law of England, of the inheritance of the deceased, a third part of 2s. rent, with a third part of the advowson of the church of Milton Damarle, held of the said Hugh de Courtenay by service of fealty.

She held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick.

She died on 23 December, 28 Edward III. Joan, daughter of the said William and Alice, aged ½ years, is her heir. [1]

Alice, late the wife of William Luscote.

Writ to Thomas de Berkele of Coberle, escheator in co. Gloucester and the adjacent March of Wales, William de Leden, late escheator, to whom it was first sent, having died. 10 June, 29 Edward III.

Gloucester and the adjacent March of Wales. Inq. taken at Magor in the said March, Thursday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 29 Edward III. [25 June 1355]

Redwyk in Magor. A third part of the messuage of the manor, 32a. land and pasture, 11s. 5%. yearly rent from bond tenants, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.

She held no more lands &c. in the county and march.

She died on 20 April, 29 Edward III. Joan, daughter of the said William and Alice, aged one year, is her heir. [2]
