1729 James Rickey, child of Alexander and Ann Rickey, was born on day 3 of month 9 (November 3), according to records of the Quaker Falls monthly meeting in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. [1][2] [3] [4] [5].

1749 James Rickey signed the marriage certificate of brother John Rickey and Mary Hutchinson. [6]

1750 James Rickey and Elizabeth Rickey were licensed, in Pennsylvania, to marry in December. [7] [8]

1751 "James Rickey being removed to Philad requested a certificate [from the Bucks County Meeting] to the Mo Meeting of Friends there wherefore John Palmer & Joh'a Palmer are appointed to make the necessary enquiry concerning him and to report to next meeting." Dated On 1 of month 3 (May) at the Falls (Bucks County, Pennsylvania), Monthly Meeting. [9][10] Approved at the meeting on 5 of month 4 (June).

1751 James Rickey had moved to Philadelphia and requested a certificate by the Falls Monthly Meeting in Bucks County for removal to Philadelphia on day 5 of month 4. [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] [16] On 30 of month 6, the records of the Philadelphia meeting recorded "James Rickey being lately settled in this City produced a certificate from the Falls Monthly Meeting in Bucks County dated 5th:4 mo last (June) of his orderly conversation." 1752 James Riky and Ann Norton, both of Philadelphia, were married on November 2, 1752, at the First German Reformed Church of Philadelphia. [19] [20] [21]

1752 James Rickey was a witness to the will of William Carver of Buckingham, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. [22]

1754 Sarah, daughter of James Rickey, died (Philadelphia MM). [23]

1754(?) James Rickey, shoemaker, was taxed 14 pounds in Chestnut Ward, Philadelphia. [24] [25]

1757 Sister Ann Rickey Jr, daughter of Alexander Rickey, married Mahlon Kirkbride, son of Mahlon Kirkbride, both of Lower Makefield Twp, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, on day 30 of month 11, at the Falls Meeting. Witnessed by Alexander and Ann Rickey, Mahlon and Ann Kirkbride, Tho and Hannah Rickey, John and Mary Rickey, James Rickey, Alex Jr Rickey, Rachel Rickey, Keirll Rickey, Randle (not Catherine) Hutchinson, and many others. 1757-60 James Rickey was listed in a directory of Friends in Philadelphia on the West side of Front Street. The name of Rebecca Jones was recorded in brackets with his name. [28]

1758 Son, James Rickey, was named in the will of Alexander Rickey, of Lower Makefield Twp, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, dated October 1, 1758. [29] [30]

1759 James Rickey witnessed the will of William Carver of Buckingham, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. [31]

1759-1762 James Rickey and children Alexander and Elizabeth were named as members of the Philadelphia monthly meeting at 302 Arch Street. [32] [33] [34] [35] [36] [37]

1759 James Rickey was condemned by the Quaker Philadelphia Monthly Meeting for marrying contrary to doctrine. "James Rickey attended the meeting with a paper? condemning his reproachful conduct of unchastity before marriage, and of his breach of discipline in marrying by a priest, which from the acco[unt]: given to the meeting, there is ground to hope he is sincere in, and affords satisfaction. Owen Jones is therefore desired to read the same at the close of a public meet[in]g as usual." Dated 27 of month 7, at the Philadelphia meeting house. [38] [39]. At a meeting on 31 of 8th month, Owen Jones read the testimonies against Joseph Maul, & Joseph Harmer, & James Rickey's paper of Acknowledgement [40] [41].

1763 Hannah Rickey, daughter of [brother] Thomas Rickey of Bucks County, married Samuel White, son of Joseph White, at Falls meeting on 12 day, month 1. Witnessed by James Rickey and many others. [42]

1763 "Philadelphia, December 27, 1763. Lost, on the 24th Instant, between Philadelphia and Frankfort, a Silver Watch, with a China Face, the Maker Name Bute, Number unknown; it is chased round the Edges of the Case, and had a light coloured Ribbon, and a small Compass Seal. Whoever finds the said Watch, and brings it to James Rickey, Shoemaker in Front street, Philadelphia, six Doors below Arch street, shall receive Two Dollars Reward, paid by James Rickey. " [43]

1764 The will of uncle John Keirl [brother of mother Ann Keirl Rickey] of Bristol Twp, Bucks County, named Thomas Rickey, John Rickey, Alexander Rickey, James Rickey, Keirl Rickey, Rachel and Mary Rickey, Catharine Hutchinson, and Ann Kirkbride as children of Alexander and Ann Rickey and as kinsmen. 1765 James Rickey's child, age 5, died on month 4 day 6. [Records of deceased Friends in Philadelphia]

1765 Ann Rickey, perhaps James Rickey's' wife, died 7-28-1765 at age 30. (Philadelphia MM). [46]

1766 Keirl Rickey, son of Alexander Rickey deceased, married Sarah Milnor, on April 9, at the Falls Monthly Meeting, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Witnessed by James Rickey and many others. [47] [48]

1768 James Rickey was disowned by the Quakers on 24 of month 6. "James Rickey of this city Cordwainer, having been educated & made profession amongst us, the People called Quakers, contrary to the advice of diverse Friends members of this meeting, hath kept another man's wife in his service & against her husband's consent by which means a scandalous report hath prevailed against said Rickey & he not showing a proper disposition to clear himself thereof - For the clearing of our holy Profession from reproach we declare our disunity with such conduct & that we do not esteem the said James Rickey as a member in Religious fellowship with us, until by his future conduct he manifests a reformation of life & make such acknowledgement & satisfaction as the nature of his case requires which that he may is our desire for him." 1768 Simes Betts married Rachel Rickey, daughter of Alexander Rickey, late of Lower Makefield, on 16 of month 11, at the Falls meeting. Witnessed by James Rickey and others. [51]

1769 James Rickey was listed as a cordwiner in South Ward, Philadelphia and was taxed £14.8.8. Nearby listings included George North, William Gabert, John Cox, and James Cooper. [52] [53]

1772 James Rickey was named in the apprenticeship of George Bickerton, Jr. on 27 Jul 1772 in Philadelphia. George was taught the cordwainer's trade, have one quarter's evening schooling each winter of the last four years (value of pound 10 lawful money of Pennsylvania). The indenture was for a term of 7 yrs., 2 mo. [54]

1774 James Rickey was taxed 9 pounds as a cordwainer in Philadelphia. Nearby listings included Thomas Hough, Jane Osborne (widow), William Lippincott, and James Cooper. [55] [56]

1775 Daughter Elizabeth Rickey of Gloucester and William Nicholls of Philadelphia received a marriage license on March 12, 1775. [57]

1775 James Rickey died on 5-13-1775, at age 45 and his death was recorded in the Philadelphia monthly meeting records [58] [59] [60]. His death at age 45 is listed in the Friends records for the middle district of Philadelphia on day 13 of month 5 (Philadelphia MM). [61]

1775 The will of James Rickey of Philadelphia was proved June 16, 1775. He was a cordwainer. Children: Elizabeth Nickels, Ann Rickey (under age 18), and Alexander (of age to inherit, so likely already age 21). Catherine Redman, Housekeeper, to have income and use of the house for 1 year. Execs.: Isaih Bell, Richard Topliff and Cadwalader, cordwainer [62] [63] [64] [65] [66] [67] [68]

Be it remembered that I James Rickey of the City of Philadelphia in the Province of Pennsylvania Cordwainer being sick in Body but of sound disposing Mind and Memory do make this to be my last Will and Testament in Manner and form following that is to say, First it is my Will that all my Just debts and funeral Expenses be duly paid by my Executors hereafter named; Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Nickels the Sum of Fifteen pounds To be paid her at five pounds per year till the whole fifteen pounds is paid. Item I give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Rickey fifteen pounds to be paid her when she arives to the Age of eighteeen years Old; Item I give and Bequeath unto my Housekeeper Catharine Redmon Twenty Pounds to be paid her in One Year after my Decease & to live in my House One Year, Rent free, & to leave it the last of the Sixth Month called June which will be in the Year One thousand seven hundred Seventy Six, Item I give unto my son Allicksander Rickey All the Rest and Residue of my Estate both Reall & personell unto him his Heirs and Assigns forever, but it is my Will that if my Personell Estate is not Sufistent to pay all my Just debts & funeral Expences, & the Legaces I before gave by this my Will to my Tew Daughters Elizabeth & Ann, & to Catharine Redmon, Then I give unto my Executors or the Surviver of them as full Power to Sell & Convey my House and Lott in front Street, and to make a good and Sufficient Deed of Conveyance to the purchaser for the same, to Them their Heirs & Assignes forever, And after the debts & Legacies aforesaid is paid The Remander I give unto my Son Aliskcand Rickey & to his Heirs and Assigns forever, And I leave and Appoint my Friends Isaiah Bell, Richard Topliff and Cadwalater Dickinson all of the City of Philadelphia afores'd Cordwainer to be the executors to this my last Will and Testament, And I do hereby revoke & Declare Void and Null all former & other Wills by me at any time heretofore made, and declare this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have the said James Rickey the Testatrix have hereunto set my hand and Seal the Ninth day of the Sixth month called June in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred & seventy five. James Rickey (his mark and seal) Sealled Published pronounced & Declared by the within named James Rickey as and for his last Will & Testament in our presence Benjamin Oldden, Jacob Bills, William Peppelsdorff - Philad'a June 10th 1775 personally appeared Benjamin Oldden Jacob Bell and William Pepplesdorff the witnesses to the foregoing Will and on their solemn Affirmations according to Law did declare that they saw and heard James Rickey the Testator therein named Sign Seal Publish and Declare the same Will for and as his last Will and Testament and that aat the Execution thereof he was of sound disposing Mind Memory & Understanding to the best of their Knowledge & Belief Coram Benjamin Cheur Reg Gen'l - Be it remembered that on the 10th day of June 1775 The last will and testament of James Rickey deceased in due form of Law was proved and probate and Letters Testamentary were granted to Isaiah Bell, Richard Topliff and Cadwalader Dickinson Executors in the said will named being first solemnly affirmed well and truly to administer the said deceased's Estate and bring an Inventory thereof into the Register Gereral's Office and Philadelphia on or before the 16th day of July next and render a true and Just account of the said Administration on or before the 15th day of June 1776 or when thereto legally required. Given under the Seal of the said office. Benjamin Cheur Reg. Gen'l

1775 "All Persons indebted to the Estate of James Rickey, late of Philadelphia, deceased, are desired to pay the same immediately; and all those who have any Demands against said Estate, are desired to bring in their Accounts, properly proved, to Isaiah Bell, Richard Topliff, Cad. 1776 A map of Philadelphia (1776) shows the Arch Street Quaker meeting house as "10", facing Front Street. James Rickey lived on Front Street, 6 doors down from Arch Street, according to a 1763 newspaper notice. The "Old Ferry Ship and Austins Ferry" were nearby on the harbor. Perhaps James Rickey was a shoemaker or cordwainer. [70]

1779 The estate of James Rickey, in High Street Ward, Philadelphia, was taxed under the name of Sebastian Rink. [71] [72] [73]

1788 Samuel Ivins of Chesterfield, New Jersey, son of Samuel Ivins of Stafford Twp, Monmouth County, married Ann Rickey of Falls, daughter of James Rickey, deceased of Philadelphia on November 18. Witnessed by John and Randal Rickey. [74] [75]

1803 A report described an apprentice of James Rickey. [76]:

March 10 1803 Admitted Thomas Neff (Shoemaker) Legal Resident 65 years of age, born in Germany, came from there with his Mother, and landed in Philadelphia fifty three years ago; served his Apprenticeship in it, twelve years with William Cooper and two years with James Rickey, Cordwainer; he was here the 30th April 1798 and was discharged May 5th following, cured of Rheumatism, and is come in with the same complaint.

A Rickey genealogy reported James Rickey, son of Alexander Rickey and Ann Keirl, born September (incorrectly assumed month 9 was September rather than November) 3, 1729. [80]
