These notes are gathered for our research about possible parents of Jane Atkins, spouse of Thomas French [1].
There are thousands (5493 on November 15, 2019) of trees at Ancestry.com that report Jonas/John Cattel/Atkins and Briggette Marriott as the parents of Jane Atkins, born 1643, spouse of Thomas French. We have found no records to support this possibility and the parish records that we have found, including the marriage of John Atkins and Bridgett Marriott in 1634 and the baptism of their daughter Elizabeth in 1635, conflict with this possibility. 1609 Bridgett Marrott, daughter of George and Kathern Marrot, was baptized on March 11 at Ravensthorpe, Northamptonshire, England. [3]
1611 John Atkins, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins, was baptized on December 15, at Lilbourne parish, Northamptonshire, England. [4]
1634 John Atkyns of Desborough & Brigett Marriott of Nether Heyford were married on December 30, at St. Peter Church, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. [5] [6]
1635 "Elizabetha Atkins, filia Johes Atkins & Brigette uxor baptizat fuit December 13". Nether Heyford parish records. [7]
1636 Brigett Atkins, child of John Atkins and Bridgett Atkins, was baptized on March 12, 1636, in Desborough, Northamptonshire, England. [8]
1638 Ellnor Atkins, child of John Atkins and Bridgett Atkins, was baptized on November 1, 1638, in Desborough, Northamptonshire, England. [9]
1641 Mary, daughter of John Atkins and Brigett his wife was baptized on the 24th of January 1640/41 at Desborough Parish, Northampton. [10]
1643 John, son of John Atkins and Bridget was baptized March 30, 1643 (Thursday) at Desborough Parish, Northampton. [11]
Bridgett's death has been reported in Nov 1692.
Some researcher name Bridgett's name as Cattell. Reports differ:
