Notes for Edmund L. Hackstadt and Kittie Holmes

1890 Edmund L. Hackstadt (age 26) and Kittie Holmes (age 24) were married on March 19 in Dowagiac, Cass County, Michigan. Edmund, son of W(?) Hackstadt and Mary Cain, was born in Illinois. Kittie, daughter of Richard Holmes and Mary A. Arner, was born in Michigan. Edmund was a merchant and Kittie a sales lady and both lived in Dowagiac. Neither had been married previously. They were married by S. L. Hamilton, Minister of the Gospel, and the witnesses were Richard Holmes and Mary A. Holmes of Dowagiac. [1]

1910 On April 19, Edward L. Hackstadt (age 46) and his wife Kate Hackstadt (age 44) lived at 303 Porter Street in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan, with their sons Paul Hackstadt (age 18) and Neil Hackstadt (age 14). Edward and Kate had been married 20 years. Kate had had 2 children and both were living. Edward was a traveling salesman for a shirt waist factory. Paul was a cutter for a shirt waist factory. Edward was born in Illinois, his father in Germany and his mother in Virginia. Kate and her father were born in Michigan and her mother in New York. Both sons were born in Michigan. A servant, Matilda Scheryer (age 21) also lived in the household. [2]

1915 Kittie H. Hackstadt died on February 28 at 1610 Genesee Street in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. The death certificate lists her date of birth as July 6, 1865, her birthplace as Michigan, her father as Richard Holmes, born in Michigan, and her mother as Mary Arner, born in New York. Her cause of death was shock after laparotomy with pulmonary tuberculosis a contributing cause. She was buried in Dowagiac on March 2. [3]

1940 Edmund L. Hackstadt died on January 27 at his home, 1414 Gratiot in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. The death certificate lists his date of birth as October 2, 1863, his wife as Mae Hackstadt, his age as 76 years, 3 months, 25 days, his occupation as manufacture in a dress factory, his father's name as William Hackstadt, his father's birth place as Bavaria, and his cause of death as coronary thrombosis. Edmund was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Dowegiac, Michigan, on January 30. [4]
