Research Notes:

Chronologically, the family in the following set of records is a potential match for the family of Henry Crossland who immigrated to Ireland and then to America. (Note, for example, the similarities to the names Henry and Mary gave to their children.)

"Banns of Marriage between Henry Crosland & Ann Bean, both of this Parish" were published at All Saints, Spofforth, Yorkshire, England, on Sunday, the 24th of October, on Sunday, the 31st of October, and on Sunday, the 7th of November. [20]

Henry Crosland and Ann Bean, both of the parish of Spofforth, were married by Banns on November 8 in the Church of All Saints, Spofforth, Yorkshire, by John Metcalfe, Minister. The witnesses were James Potter and Thos. Smith. [21]

"Henry, Son of Henry and Ann Crossland, Butcher," was born on September 22 and baptized on October 16 at St. James Wetherby Chapel, Yorkshire, England. [22]

Land in Ledsham, Barkston-Ash, Yorkshire, owned by Granville Hastings Wheler Esquire and occupied by Henry Crossland, tenant, was taxed 1£14s2½d. [23]

"Hannah Daughtr of Henry Crossland" of Kippax was baptized on October 27 at Kippax St Mary, Yorkshire, England. [24] [25]

"Mary D. of Henry Crosland" of Chapel Allerton was born on August 24 and baptized on September 20 at Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [26]

"Elisabeth Dr of Henry Crosland & Ann his Wife (late Bean)" of Chapel Allerton was born on Oct 1, 1809, and baptized on June 12, 1810, at Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [27]

"Hannah Dr of Henry Crosland" of Potter Newton, age 5 years, was buried on January 3 at Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [28]

"James Son of Henry & Anne Crosland" of Potter Newton was born on April 19 and baptized on June 28 at Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [29]

John, son of Henry and Ann Crosland of Potter Newton, laborer, was born on May 18 and baptized on September 18 at Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [30]

Ann, wife of Henry Crosland of Potter Newton, age 37 years, was buried on September 18 at Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [31]

Henry Crosslande and Mary Slayden, both of Rothwell, were married by Banns on February 27 at Rothwell Holy Trinity, Yorkshire, England. Witnesses were John Donsill(?) and John Bottom. [32]

Hannah, Daughter of Henry and Mary Crossland of Kirkstall, Butcher, was born on September 25, 1817, and baptized on May 31, 1818, at Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [33]

Jane, Daughter of Henry and Mary Crossland of Kirkstall, Butcher, was born on April 4 and baptized on May 9 at Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [34]

William, Son of Henry and Mary Crossland of Kirkstall, Cloth Dresser, was born on February 26 and baptized on March 25 at Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [35]

Henry Crossland of Kirkstall, age 49, was buried on May 19 in Chapel Allerton, Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire. [36]

However, a "Henry Crosland, Single Man, Workhouse, age 23 years," was buried on January 29, 1827, at Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [37] Was he the the son of Henry and Ann? There were two other men of this name baptized in or near Leeds in the early 1800s. A "Henry bastard Son of Mary Crossland" of Kippax was baptized on April 4, 1802, at Kippax St Mary, Yorkshire, England. [38] [39] This man would have been 24 years old and in his 25th year on January 29, 1827, and thus a bit too old to be a good match to the burial record. There was also a "Henry, son of Elizabeth Crosland of Vicar Lane" who was born on June 3, 1804, and baptized on July 15 at Leeds St Peter, Yorkshire, England. [40] This man would have been 22 years old and in his 23rd year and thus a potential match to the burial record. Henry and Ann's son Henry, who would have been 23 years old and in his 24th year, is also a potential match to the burial record, but since his father was living in the area it seems less likely that Henry and Ann's son would have been a single man in the workhouse in 1627.
