1669 James Coate, son of John and Elizabeth Coate, was born on 4 of month 12 [February], 1668/69, at South Somerset, England. [1] [2]

1691 James Coat was granted a lot of land, perhaps near Third Street [Philadelphia, Pennsylvania], by lots of John Fallows and Abraham Hooper. [3]

1691 James Coate and Mary Watson, on 27 of month 9, declared their intention to marry at the Philadelphia meeting. [4]

1692 James Coate, carpenter of Philadelphia, and Mary Watson were married on 8 February (month 12), 1691/92, in Philadelphia. Samuel Coate and others witnessed the marriage. [5] [6]

1692 James Coate, and many others, signed a letter, written by William Penn, against a tax of one penny per pound to be imposed by the Pennsylvania Assembly. [7]

1697 Elizabeth Coate, daughter of James and Mary Coate, died on 4 July or 5 June. [8]

1705 The will of James Coate of Philadelphia, carpenter, was dated December 16, 1704 and proved April 19, 1705. Children John, Ann and others whose names are not given. Brothers Archibald Meikle and Abraham Carliell. Executrix: Wife Mary. Witnesses: William Crisp, Abraham Carliell, Richard Heath. [9]

1719 John Coats, child of James Coats, died on April 8, 1719. John Coats had lived at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [10] [11]

1720 Edmund Sands and Mary Coate, daughter of James Coate, late of Philadelphia, were married on December 8. Witnessed by James Coate, Elizabeth, Henry, and William Coate, Caleb and Mary Rapier, and others. [12] [13]
