1865 Louis Chevalley, son of Jean Louis and of Susanne Louise born Billaud of Champtauroz, was born at Chevressy, Pomy, on September 8 and baptized in the church of Pomy on 12 November. [1]

1870 Irma, daughter of Louis Christian Bühler and his wife Marie Adéle Monnier, was born on November 13 in Montagnes de Chézard et Saint Martin, Val de Ruz, Neuchâtel. [2]

1885 On 22 October, Louis Chevalley was awarded a prize at the veterinary school of Lyon, [3]

1886 Louis Chevalley's colleague drowned in a boating accident on June 5, but Louis was saved. [4]

Vaud. - Lundi soir … La même soir, deux caporaux genevois, en service aux casernes de Lausanne, se rendirent à Ouchy et louerent un petit bateau, dans l'intention d'aller se baigner aux environs des bains Rochat. L'un d'eux, nommé Louis Bouilland, en mettant son pantaloon, fit chavirer l'embarcation et disparut au fond de l'eau. Son camarade, Louis Chevalley put être sauvé par un citoyen qui se trouvait a quelque distance. Le cadaver du noyé a été retrouvé hier matin à une cinquantaine de mètre des bains.

1893 Louis Chevalley, a veterinarian in the Swiss Army, was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. "Mutations dans le corps des officiers. A. Promotions. (Du 15 août 1893.) 1898 January 6 Louis Chevalley, a veterinarian in the Swiss Army, was promoted to the rank of Captain. [22] The newspaper stated, [23]

1903 January 16 Louis Chevalley, a veterinarian in the Swiss Army, was promoted to the rank of Major. "(Arrêté du Conseil fédéral du 16 janvier 1903) Dans sa séance de ce jour, le Conseil fédéral a procédé aux promotions et transferts suivants dans le corps des officiers: A. Promotions. Vétérinaires. Au grade du major: 1865 Chevalley, Louis, de Champtauroz, à Yverdon, Capitaine depuis le 6 janvier 1898. B. Transverts. Major Chevalley, Louis, Yverdon E.-M. de la IIIe brig. d'infanterie (Ancienne incorporation) à d. (Nouvelle incorporation)" [25]

1906 Major Louis Chevalley was a veterinarian in the Swiss Army in Yverdon. "Experts pour l'estimation et la dépréciation des chevaux militaire en 1906. (le 10 mars 1906.) Experts et places officielles de taxation et de dépréciation. Canton de Vaud. Lieu d'estimation d'Yverdon (Hôtel de Paon). Premier Expert: Major Vétérinaire Chevalley, à Yverdon." [27]
1907 Louis Chevalley died on August 25 in Yverdon. An obituary in a Swiss Veterinary Medicine journal states, [28]
Louis Chevalley est mort à Yverdon le 25 août à l'âge de‘ 42 ans après une courte maladie. Chevalley fut un des derniers vétérinaires suisses qui ait fait ses études en France. Entré comme élève à l’Ecole de Lyon en 1883 il s’y fit remarquer par son zèle et son intelligence; il en sortit quatre ans plus tard après, être toujours resté en tête de sa classe, ce qui lui valut le prix d'excellence consistant en une médaille et une trousse d’honneur. Le gouvernement français lui offrit une brillante situation dans l'armée française mais, en bon Suisse, il refusa de renoncer à sa nationalité.
Etabli à Yverdon, Chevalley ne tarda pas à s’y créer une belle situation comme praticien; dans l’armée, il parvint au grade de major vétérinaire. Tout semblait devoir lui reussir; la mort est venue briser une carrière qui eût pu être brillante. Le très nombreux cortège de ceux qui avaient tenu à lui rendre les derniers devoirs témoignait du grand nombre d’amis qu’il avait su se faire dans le Canton.
1907 The death of Louis Chevalley was reported in the journal of the National Veterinary School of Alfort in France. "Necrologie: M. Chevalley (Louis), vétérinaire à Yverdon (canton de Vaud), major-vétérinaire de l'armée suisse, diplômé de Lyon en 1887." [29]
1918 A portrait photo of Irma Chevalley was taken.
1933 On her first trip to the U.S., Irma Chevalley left Le Havre, France on the 21st of June on the ship Lafayette and arrived in the Port of New York on the 29th of June. The ship manifest lists Irma Chevalley as age 63, a widow, occupation merchant, able to read and write French, nationality Swiss, birth place Neufchatel, Switzerland, passport visa 112 issued in Geneva 6/12/33, address 7 Rue Pestalozzi, Yverdon, Switzerland, final destination Alton, Ill to visit son Paul Chevalley, 824 McKinley Bvd, intends to stay 3M, in good health, height 5 feet 7 inches, with Gr hair and Br eyes. 1933 The Alton Evening Telegraph described a family reunion weekend during Irma Chevalley's visit with her son Paul in Alton. [32]
Reunion Honoring Switzerland Guest
With the arrival in Alton today of Armand Chevalley of Chicago, his wife and two children, a reunion of the Chevalley family, the first in 21 years which the mother Mrs. lrma Chevalley of Verdon [Yverdon], Switzerland, had had with her sons, was held at the home of Paul Chevalley on McKinley boulevard.
Mrs. Chevalley arrived in this country from Switzerland a week ago and has been a guest at the home of her son, Paul. Today other members of the family gathered here for a week-end visit with her.

1949 The Alton Evening Telegraph reported on November 16, [33]
Great-Grandmother, 80, Will Fly Back to Switzerland
Following four full months of enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and traveling in the United States, Mrs. Irma Chevalley will leave New York, Friday, for her home in Yverdon, County of Vaud, Switzerland. Mrs. Chevalley, who celebrated her eightieth birthday Nov. 11, made the trip to the States by plane and will fly home. She will leave LaGuardia Field, New York at 2 p. m. Friday and will arrive in Switzerland at 11 a. m. Saturday., 21 hours later. The air-minded grandmother said: "Flying is the only way to travel."
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chevalley will accompany his mother to New York and they will remain there several days as guests of Miss Lena L'Eplattenier, cousin of Mrs. Chevalley.
While visiting in the States, Mrs. Chevalley made her headquarters with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chevalley of 824 McKinley. She visited relatives in Dayton and Akron, O., and in Kentucky, and a family reunion was held here in delebration of her birthday. Those attending included Mrs. Antone Sletner, the former Mademoiselle Simone Fontaine of Berkeley, Calif., a granddaughter of Mrs. Chevalley, a niece and nephew of Chicago, a niece and nephew of Dayton, O., a son, Armand Chevalley, and wife of Kentucky; a grandson, Louis, and wife and two children, Robert and Janet Paulette, of Akron, O.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Niedernhofer, Mrs. Niedernhofer is her grandmother's namesake; Mr. Niedernhofer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Niedernhofer, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chevalley and son, Robert, at whose home the celebration was held.
The kind and lovable manner of the spry and plucky grandmother has won her many firends here. Her friends have been wishing her a pleasant trip home and are all looking forward to another visit from her.
The French-speaking woman has expressed through her son and daughter-in-law the wonders and beauty of America and said she has enjoyed this trip more than the one she made here 16 years ago.
1956 Irma Chevalley died on April 3. An obituary in the Alton Evening Telegraph stated [34]

Relatives here have received word of the death April 3, of Mrs. Irma Chevailey, 85, of Yverdon, Switzerland. Mrs. Chevalley, mother of Paul Chevalley of 824 McKinley Blvd., was acquainted in Alton, having visitod here 1933 and 1949.
At the time of Mrs. Chevalley's death, her son, Paul, and his wife were en route to Switzerland to visit her, unaware that her death bad occurred, until their arrival in France last Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chevalley left Alton April 1.
Irma Chevalley kept a tobacco store and lived at 7 Place Pestalozzi, Yverdon, Vaud, Swisse.
