1865 Catharine Kercher and Samuel Smith were married on November 23, 1865 at Elkhart County, Indiana. [1] [2] [3] [4]

1880 Samuel Smith (age 38, born in Ohio, married) lived in Meridian, McPherson County, Kansas, in a household with Kate Smith (age 33), Idella Smith (age 14), Allice Smith (age 12), Wm. Smith (age 8), and Daniel Smith (age 5). Samuel Smith's parents were both born in Canada. Samuel Smith was a farmer. [5]

1900 Kathrine Smith (born in Ohio in Aug 1847, married for 34 years), mother, lived in Newton Ward 3, Harvey County, Kansas, in a household with William K Smith (age 28), Ida M Smith (age 23), Edgar J Smith (age 2), and Ester Smith (age 10/12). Kathrine Smith's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Kathrine Smith had had 5 children, 4 still living. [6]

1910 Samuel H Smith (age 66, born in Ohio, married for 44 years) lived in Newton Ward 3, Harvey County, Kansas, in a household with Catherine Smith (age 63), Josephine Williamson (age 26), Josephine L Williamson (age 7), and Susane Kercher (age 57). Samuel H Smith's parents were both born in United States. Samuel H Smith could read and write. Samuel H Smith was a carpenter. [7]

1920 Catherine Smith (age 72, born in Ohio, married), wife, lived in Newton Ward 3, Harvey County, Kansas, in a household with S H Smith (age 77), Josephine Williamson (age 37), Josephine L Williamson (age 16), and Susie Kercher (age 67). Catherine Smith's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Catherine Smith could read and write. [8]

Samuel H, Smith was born in Goshen, Elkhart county, Indiana, December 4, 1842. On November 23, 1863, he was married to Katherine Kerscher at Goshen, Indiana, where they lived on a farm until 1873, when the family moved to Peabody, Kansas. In 1879 they moved to Newton, Kansas, where they have resided ever since. In the early days Mr. Smith was employed at the Barnett & Foltz HardWare Store and later was employed in the car department of the Santa Fe, where he was a faithful employee until he was pensioned a few years ago. For eighteen months, Mr. Smith was employed at the Hayter & Holbert Hardware store.

Mr. Smith was a faithful member of the Salem Evangelical church of this city, with which he united thirty years ago. About seven years ago, he was a patient at the Santa Fe hospital at Topeka and his failing health practically dates back to that time, On December 5, of last year, he entered Bethel hospital where he was a patient sufferer and where he remained until the time of his death, which occurred Friday afternoon.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife and four children, Mrs. Frank Stevens of Topeka; Mrs, W. M. Bowlus of Fremond, Ohio, W, K. Smith and Mrs. Josephine Williamson of this city. A son, Daniel, passed away at the age of six years. Mr. Smith also leaves twenty-two grand children and twelve greatgrand- children and three sisters Mrs. Lizzie Landis and Mrs. John Henry Loucks of Canton, Kansas, and Mrs. P. N. Hamilton of Pigeon, Mich.

Funeral services, for Mr. Smith, will be held from the family residence, 328 East First, Monday afternoon at 2:30. Conducted by Rev. C. F. Iwig, his pastor and Rev. J. K. Young of Hesston, who was his former pastor in Newton. Interment will be in Green wood cemetery.

1931 Catharine Smith (1847-1931) died and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Harvey County, Kansas. [13] [14]
