1523 On July 22, in Dovercourt, Essex, "Henry Brown, chaplain," granted "to Robert Hickeman of Dovercourt and wife Agnes, Thomas Mervyn of Harwich, and Richard Strought, perpetual vicar of Dovercourt," a "Tenement called Coyles with 3 parcels of land thereto adjoining, comprising land (9 acres) with tenement in Ramsey, abutting on land of John Cook on south, land called Melle Hyll on north, Melle Lane on east, and land of John Cook, formerly of Robert Hickeman, on west; land (3 acres) called Leveadown, abutting on land of Agnes Breggs on three sides and Blakeney Acre on the fourth; land (3 acres) called Buschepightyllis in Dovercourt between Morefeld Pyghtell on one side and land of Master Gylford on the other, abutting on Lentfeld on south and land of Stephen Sturgeon on north." The deed recites the "feoffment of above property by Robert Hickeman, Richard Juler of Ramsey, John Mervyn and Giles Hall to said Henry Brown. Witnesses: Richard Smyght, John Jackeson, William Hertt, John Galawey, John Smyght and others." [1]

1526, On September 17 in Dovercourt, Essex, in the "Counterpart of grant to new trustees for uses of will of Richard Strought, formerly vicar of Dovercourt, Roger Cowper," "Thomas Merven, Robert Pytteman and John Wodewarde of Harwich" granted "to Richard Alen, William Tayler, John Jakeson, William Hartte, Richard Okey of Dovercourt, Christopher Alen, John Alen, Ralph Taylor, John Sakke the eldest, John Sakke, John Sakke, junior, John Hartte, senior, Robert Smyth, son of John Smyth, and Thomas Okey, son of Richard Okey" a "Croft (4 acres) called Batemans in Ramsey, abutting on highway from Little Oakley to Dovercourt on north, land of manor of Fulton called Felshames on south, land formerly of John Hikeman on west and land formerly of Thomas Nedys on east." The deed recites a "grant, 20 December 1519, of property as above by Reginald Edgare of Harwich, gentleman (at request of Edmund Tylney, gentleman, and wife Margaret, widow of John Cony and William Pers, and executors of the said John Cony and William Pers) to the present grantors and Richard Strought. Witnesses: John Sakke, senior, Richard Smyth, son of Robert Smyth, Thomas Bytterych, John Smyth, William Manne and Richard Alen." [2] [3]
