1544 Stephen Sare, mercer, son of Robert Sare, was admitted to the Freedom of the City of Canterbury. [1]

1558 Stephen Sare was mayor of the city of Canterbury. [2]

1571 Stephen Sare of the city of Canterbury wrote his will on October 4. [3]

In dei Nomine amen The fourth daye of October in the yeare of our lord god one thowsand fyve hundrethe seventye & one I Stephen Sare of the cyttye of Canterburye, beinge syck in bodye and yett of good and perfett memorye doe make my last wyll and testament in manner and forme followinge First I bequeath my Sowle to all mightye god by the merytts of whose passyon I trust to be saved. My bodye I bequethe to the earth. To be Buryed accordynge to the discretyon of myne Executors and overseer, Item I bequethe to Sara my daughter one hundrethe pounds To be payd vnto her within one half yeare next after my deathe. Item I bequeth to Stephen my Sonne tenne pounds in money and my fower kyen and to Nicholas Arthure and Wyllyam my sonnes to euerye of them twentye pounds To be employed to their several uses at suche tymes as shall be thought good by my overseer And Mr Aldaye one of myne Executors or one of them. And I bequethe to Sara my Daughter my best Cupp and best saltem six syluer spounes with maydenheads and my best pott of syluer and gylte. Item I bequethe vnto Stephen my sonne one salte, and syxe spones and grete whyte goblett, And one _____ of syluer and gylte, Item I bequeth vnto Nycholas my Sonne one syluer salte, and three syluer spones and one goblett. Item I bequeth to Wyllyam my Sonne, one goblett, one salte, and iij syluer spones. Item I bequethe vnto Arthure my sonne, one salte and goblett And iij syluer spones. Item I bequethe to my brother Nicholas xls. Item I bequeth to my Syster Dorothye Barrett fortye shillings. Item I bequethe to the poore mayde in my howse cauled Thomasyn twentye shillings. Item I will that all my interest that I have in the parsonage of Potham be soulde by Mr Aldey and myne overseer or one of them And the profett therof yearlye to be equally devyded amongst all my children. Item of this present Testament I make myne Executors, the sayd Mr Aldey, Nicholas my sonne and Sara my daughter. To wch sayde Mr Aldey I gyve fortye shillings And of this my presente will I make Mr Seriante Lovelace overseer to whome I gyve for his paynes a lytle syluer salte gylte and xls in money provyded allwayes that wch soever of my children shall not be ordered by the sayd Mr Aldaye or Mr Lovelace vppon any matter of stryfe or in the order of their education or marryage. That then such not performynge any suche dyrectyon or appoyntment to enjoye noe parte of legacyes by this my last will or any of my goods or to be myne Executor from thence forthe. All the rest of my goods and cattelles & detts to me owinge my detts and legacies discharged I will shall be equellye devyded amongest my children by the dyscretion of the sayde Mr Aldaye, and the sayd Mr Lovelace, or one of them.
This is the last will of me the sayde Stephen Sare touchinge the disposityon of all my lands and Tenements within the Cyttye of Canterburye and in the Countye of Kent. First I will to Thomas my sonne and the heyers of his bodye laufully begotten all my lands and Tenements in Bacston(?) The remaynde therof to my right heyers. Item I will my Tenement with the appurtenances in wch I inhabyte in St Andrewes in the Cytty of Cantergurye to my sonne Stephen and his heyers. Item I will vnto my sonne Wyllyam & his heyere the next tenement vnto the howse where I inhabyte nowe in the occupyeing of Thomas Browne the Dayles Item I will the ____ or medowe that I have in the paryshe of Northgate being by estimation three acres to Nycholas my sonne & his heyers Item I will to Arthure my Sonne & his heyers all my lands and Tenements in the paryshe of St Georgies in the Cyttye of Canterbury aforesayde Item I will to Stephen my sonne aforesayd and his heyers sll such estate righte and interest as I have in the orchard in Northgate by conveyance from George Tostes(?). Item I will to Nycholas my sonne and his heyers all my lands & Tenements in Fauersham and also my two howsies with thappurtenances in Bradestrete in Northgate. Those being wytnesses Thomas Hovenden

1571 The will of Stephen Sare was proved on December 20 in the Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury. [8]

1578 Thomas Ovynden, married to Sara, daughter of Stephen Sare, Alderman, was admitted to the Freedom of the City of Canterbury. [9]

1584 William Sare, tailor, son of Stephen Sare, Alderman, was admitted to the Freedom of the City of Canterbury. [10]

1587 Stephen Sayer, tailor, son of Stephen Sayer, Alderman, was admitted to the Freedom of the City of Canterbury. [11]
