Notes for Reinold Marvin and Mary

1594 Reinold Marvin was baptized on 25 October at St Mary the Virgin, Great Bentley, Essex. "Anno Dm 1594 … October Renold Marvin Son of Edw' Marvin bapt ye 25th day." [1]

1631 During the Easter term, "Reynold Marvin of the same [Great Bentley]," was presented in the Session Rolls "for not scouring his waterditch against the highway form Great Bentley to Weeley whereby people are much "damnified" by want of free passage by reason of deluge of much water (20 rods for 6 months). His brother Matthew was presented for a similar offence in the same session. [2]

1631 During the Michaelmas term, "Reynold Marvyn of Great Bentley, husbdn.," was presented in the Session Rolls "for stopping up the water in the highway there from Bentley Church to Weeley and keeping it so stopped three months. The same Reynold for shooting in a hand gun and killing two house deves, one September last at Bentley." His brother Mathew was presented for similar offences in the same session. [3]

1636 "Marye the daughter of Reynald Maruen and Marye his wyfe was christned the 23th of 8ber 1636" at St Mary the Virgin, Great Bentley, Essex. [4]

Research Notes:

Daughter Mary married Ens. Samuel, son of Dea. Edward and Martha Collins. [5]

Reinold and Mary Marvin, through daughter Mary who married Samuel Edward Collins, were ancestors of Clara Barton, who founded the American Red Cross in 1881.
