1520 Edward Oxendon enfeoffed his property after November 20. "Debtor: Edward Oxendon [Oxenden], of London, mercer [deceased], and William Oxendon, his brother. Creditor: John Best, of London, mercer [deceased]. Amount: £160. Before whom: William Brown [Browne] the elder, Mayor of the Staple of Westminster. When taken: 18/07/1506. Endorsement: William Hawte, knight, Sheriff, replies that Edward Oxendon is dead and William was not found in the bailiwick. Note: Inquisition and return: Date to be returned: 20/01/1526 [written over an erasure]. Attached is the inquisition made at Canterbury on 08/01/1526 before William Hawte, Sheriff. On 20/03/1516 John Fyneux, knight, William Stott [Stotte], knight, John Roper the elder, esquire, and others were seised of four messuages, two barns, 590 acres of land, 60 acres of pasture, 20 acres of meadow, 120 acres of marsh, 70 acres of woodland, and rents of 56s., in Wingham [in Wingham Hundred], Adisham [in Downhamford Hundred], Wickhambreaux [in Downhamford Hundred], Bowneston, Nonington [in Wingham Hundred], Woodnesborough [in Eastry Hundred], Ashe next to Sandwich [in Wingham Hundred], Staple [in Downham Hundred], Preston [in Preston Hundred], and Chislet [in Bleangate Hundred], to the use of Alice Wood, widow, for her life, and on her death, half to the use of Edward Oxendon and his heirs, and the other half to the use of William Oxendon. Alice died on 27/06/1522. Edward Oxendon is dead. The messuages, lands, etc. are worth £34. Thomas Wood, after 28/11/1520, was seised of a messuage, a barn, 40 acres of land in Wingham, and of a third part of the Manor of Twitham, and of half of the tenement or Manor of Snaxston, and of half of 260 acres of land in Goodneston [in Wingham Hundred], Wingham, and Staple, and of half of rents of 35s. from divers lands and tenements in Goodneston, to the use of Edward Oxendon and his heirs. Edward afterwards enfeoffed a certain John Wortham and a certain Robert Wortham with this property to his own use and that of his heirs. It is worth £6 after expenses. Date: 1525 Nov 16." [1]
