A biosketch reports [1]:

Francis M Weirich was born in Richland County, Ohio April 29, 1853. His father's family emigrated to this county in the fall of 1854 and settled in Green Township. His father, Franklin Weirich, was suffocated by "damps" while digging a well for George Shambaugh, assisted by William Applegate. He sacrificed his own life in an attempt to save that of Applegate. Applegate first went into the well and was overcome by the gas. Mr. Weirich went to his assistance but soon made signs to be hoisted out. As he neared the top he was entirely overcome and dropped back into the well. Both men were dead when taken out. Coffins were ordered from Wolf Lake but on account of high waters they could not be brought over. The two men were buried in rough boxes improvised for the occasion. The widow Weirich married again to William McDonald in 1857. Francis M. stayed with them and worked on the farm until the age of twenty-one. In January 1875 he engaged in the mercantile business at Noblesville and remained in that business up to 1881. He was married to Catharine H. Hosler December 31, 1876. Venus Minelva and Orestes Fairrel are the names of their children. Mr. Weirich was elected justice of the peace in 1878 and still holds the office, to the general satisfaction of the public. 1860 Henry Hosler and wife Lydia lived in Congress Twp, Morrow County, Ohio with children Jacob (age 17), J[ulia] (age 16), Susan (age 15), Mary A (age 13), and Geo. W. (age 11), Catharine (age 8), Joanna (age 6), James H (age 1), and Lydia A (age 1). [2] [3]

1870 Henry and Lydia Hosler lived in Green Twp, Noble County, Indiana with children George (age 21), Catherine (age 18), Joann (age 15), Lydia A. (age 10), and James (age 10), all born in Ohio. [4] [5]

1876 Francis M. Weirick and Catharine Hosler were married on December 31 in Noble County, Indiana by Jefferson Addis. [6] [7]

1880 Francis M. Weirich (age 26, born in Ohio, married) lived in Noblesville Twp, Noble County, Indiana, in a household with Catarine Weirich (age 27), Venus M. Weirich (age 2), and Orestes F. Weirich (age 1). Francis M. Weirich's father was born in Ohio and his mother was born in Pennsylvania. Francis M. Weirich's occupation was merchant. [8] [9] [10]

1900 Francis Weirich [Wirick] (age 47, born Apr 1853) and Catherine Weirich (age 50, born Sep 1850, married for 26 years) lived in Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois with children Venus (age 19, born Oct 1881), Ores (age 22, born Aug 1878), Laurel, son [sic] (age 17, born Jan 1883), and Dorothy (age 13, born Nov 1887), and with Freeling Gaff (age 33). Catherine Weirich's parents were both born in Pennsylvania, USA. Catherine Weirich had had 5 children, 5 still living. [11] [12] [13]

1908 Catherine K. Hosler Weirich died on December 12 and was buried at Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Catherine K. Hosler Weirich was born on September 1, 1850. [14] [15] [16]

1908 An obituary for Catherine Weirich reports [17]:

Catherine H (Hosler) Weirich died at her home at 241 92nd St., South Chicago, Ill., December 12, 1908, aged 57 years, 2 months and 24 days. She is survived by a husband, Francis M. Weirich; 2 sons and 3 daughters, Mrs. R. W. Laidlaw, Ores F., Claire of Chicago, Laurel C of Indiana Harbor, and Mrs. E. R. Smith of Los Angeles; 3 brothers and 4 sisters, Levi H. of Indiana, Jacob H. of Arizona, James H. of Washington, Mrs. Jacob Rensch of Michigan, Mrs. Eli Rivir of Marion, Indiana, Mrs. Oliver Green and Mrs. Nathan Summers of Green Twp.

1920 Francis M Weirich (age 65, born in Ohio, widowed), father, lived in Chicago Ward 9, Cook (Chicago) County, Illinois, in a household with Chelsea E Smith (age 38), Ruth Smith (age 18), and Clair Smith (age 16). Francis M Weirich's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Francis M Weirich could read and write. Francis M Weirich's occupation was night watchman, Stores, wage or salary. [18]

1932 Francis Marion Weirich, son of Franklin Weirich and Christian Yates, died on January 18, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His spouse was named Catherine. [19] [20]

Notes for son Laurel:

1905 Laurel C. Weirich, age 24, and Alice M. Bougie were married on September 20 in South Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Laurel C. Weirich was born about 1881. [24]

1918 Laurel Cicero Weirich registered for the draft in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana. He was born on January 28, 1883. He had characteristics: Brown hair, Gray eyes, Medium build, and Tall height. His nearest relative was Alice Weirich. [25]

1920 Laurel Wueirich (age 37, born in Indiana, married) lived in East Chicago Ward 7, Lake County, Indiana, in a household with Alice Wueirich (age 36), and Robert Wueirich (age 8). Laurel Wueirich's parents were both born in Ohio. Laurel Wueirich could read and write. Laurel Wueirich was a superintendent. [26]

1933 Laurel C Weirich, married, spouse of Alice Weirich, died on February 19, at age 50, in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana. He was born on January 28, 1883, in Indiana, son of Frank Weirich and Catherine Hosler. [27]

1945 Alice M Weirich, widowed, spouse of Laurel C Weirich, died on January 14, at age 63, in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana. She was born on June 7, 1881, in Chicago Illinois, daughter of George T Bougie and Zelpha O Prevost. [28]

1945 Alice M Weirich was buried at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Lake County, Indiana. Alice M Weirich was born in 1883. [29] [30]

1939 Ores F Weirich, married, died on December 6 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. He was born on August 11, 1878, in Merriam Ind, son of Wierich Weirich and Catherine Hossler. [31]

1958 Clara McKenzie, married, died on May 24, at age 70, in East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana. She was born on November 3, 1887, in Indiana, daughter of Frances M. Weirich and Catherine Hosler. [32]

Research Notes:

There is uncertainty about the birthdates of daughters Venus and Chelsea, which seem to change and perhaps be interchanged in various census records.
