Notes for Robert de Stuteville and Beatrice

Research Notes:

Keats-Rohan describes Robert de Stuteville, [1]

Norman, from Etoutteville, Seine-Maritime, arr. Yvetot, cant. Yerville. He was granted the lands forfeited by Hugh fitz Baldric soon after the accession of William II in 1087. He lost them for his support of Robert Curthose at Tinchebrai in 1106. His son Robert, father of Robert III de Stuteville (q.v.) was also a supporter of Curthose. Robert I was a benefactor of Durham, and it is probably to him that an entry in the Durham Liber Vitae (Surtees Soc. vol. 136, fol. 44) refers in listing a Robert de Stuteville, his wife Beatrice and sons Robert Gradulf and William. He was father also of Emma, second wife of Robert fitz Hugh de Grandmesnil.
