Research Notes:

Mullin states, [7]

The Macky family tree has been preserved, and is in the unusual form of a tree trunk with branches. This gives Patrick's grandfather as Thomas Mackay (or Macky) of Ramelton, Thomas's mother being Margaret Craighead. Patrick's father is given as John Mackay of Aghadowey. In 1836 the O.S. Memoirs for Agivey parish mention:

"an old brick house situated near the road a little below Mr. Knox's house (in Lissaghmore) which was also a gentleman's seat and built by John Mackay Esq. …"

I take this to be Patrick's father: I find John Macky of Mullaghmore Gent. as a witness in 1735. John Macky died in 1765. …
Patrick's son was also John Mackay; but is described as of Elagh, Co. Tyrone, and of Prospect, Portstewart. He was living at Prospect in 1797, and the family had a long connection with Portstewart.
