Notes for George Decker and Margaret Weigel

1765 Margretha Weigle, daughter of Jacob and Margretha Weigle was born on 13 July. She was baptized on 18 August at Strayer's Church, Dover Twp, York County, with sponsors Dorothea and Martin Weigel. [1]

1794 Jacob Decker was born 14 March, 1794 and was baptized 13 April, to parents George and Margaret Decker, with Jacob and Margaret Weickel as sponsors. [2] [3]

1794 George Decker died late in 1794 and Margaretha and Jacob returned to Dover Twp, York county to live near her parents and siblings.

1796 On 27 September, Mary Decker and Jacob Weigle, administrators of the estate of George Decker, late of Codorus Twp, York County, presented an account showing a balance of £11.8.8. Margaret Decker, widow of George Decker asked that a guardian be appointed for Jacob Decker, a minor age 2. [4] Margaret Decker and Jacob Weigle were appointed as guardians. [5]

1810 A deed described the division of land from the estate of Jacob Weigle, the Elder, deceased, late of Dover Twp, York County, Pennsylvania among his heirs: Henry Weigle, Margaret Weigle married to Godfrey Kleindienst, Jacob Weigle, Martin Weigle, Peter Weigle, George Weigle, Michael Weigle, and David Weigle who sold their shares to John Weigle farmer of Weiglestown, all sons and one daughter of Jacob, deceased. Dated March 31. All signed the deed except widow Margaret. [6]

Research Notes:

Margaretha Weigle has been reported as married to Godfrey Kleindienst by some researchers. However, Sarah Kleindinst was baptized to parents Godfrey Kleindienst and Margaret on 12 June, 1796 [7], and the widow of George Decker was named as Margaret Decker on 27 September, 1796, with no mention of her remarriage. We conclude that Margaret Decker, widow of George Decker was a different person from Margaret, wife of Godfrey Kliendinst. Since Jacob and Margaret Weigle were sponsors for the birth of Jacob Decker, we assume that Margaret Decker was the daughter of Jacob and Margaret Weigle.
