1268 On October 24, William de St. John of Northamptonshire mainperned William Taylard of Rutland. [1]

Oct. 24. Westminster. Pardon to William Taylard of the county of Rutland, by mainprise of William de Sancto Johanne of co. Northampton and Richard de Sancto Johanne of co. Bedford.

1273 Land held by Wiiliam de Sancto Johanne in Northamptonshire was mentioned in the IPM for Arnold (Ernaldus) de Bosco, [2]

Blacolvisle. 80 virgates land, held of the said Arnold by William de Sancto Johanne by service of ¼ knight's fee, and he had there view of frank pledge worth 5s. yearly more or less.

Research Notes:

A 1616 pedigree of the Knightley family states, "Willelmus de Sancto Johanne de Hameldon. supervixit vxorem suam." The pedigree shows William as the husband of "Sara, filia et una heredum Roberti de Plumpton, condidit testamentum ao 1282, 10 E. I, sepulta apud Plumpton." The arms of William and Sarah are described as "Gules two bars argent a canton ermine, impaling azure five fusils in fess or each charged with a mullet gules." William is shown as the son of "Johannes de Sancto Johanne de Hameldon" and "Juliana, filia Radulphi Taillard." [3]
