Research Notes:

1804 Frederick Hoffman, son of John Wise, was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania in 1804. [1]

1810 Mary Stout was born in Hagerstown, Maryland. [2]

1833 "Take Notice - whereas my wife Mary has left my bed and board without any just cause or provocation, this is to forbid all persons from harboring or trusting her on my account, as I will pay no debts of her contracting after this date. -- Frederick Wise, Jefferson Township, Dec. 20, 1833." [3]

1850 Frederick Wise (age 46, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Madison Twp, Richland County, Ohio, in a household with Mary Wise (age 40), Mary Wise (age 21), Napolean Wise (age 17), and William Wise (age 5). [4]

1852 "The Frank Pierce campaign of 1852 will always be remembered by surviving members of the Mansfield gun squad of that period and by their friends. There was to be a big Democratic mass-meeting at Ashland on the 14th of August, and the Mansfield battery had been invited to attend and do the 'booming' for the occasion. The squad started the afternoon of the 13th with 80 pounds of powder in the magazine. John Wise, brother of Frank Wise, furnished a four-horse team to haul the carriage and acted as driver." ... "on the Horn farm the magazine exploded, throwing John Wise, the driver, and Van Hooker, who sat beside him, up above the tree tops. Mr. Wise received fatal injuries" ... "Of the members of the squad besides Messrs. Roop and Hooker, the names are recalled of ... Fred Wise." The late George C Wise was also a member of the squad, but was not with it on the occasion. 1859 Mary (Stout) Wise died in Richland County, Ohio. [6]

1860 F H Wise (age 56, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Mansfield Twp, Richland County, Ohio, in a household with Rosetta Wise (age 36), Napoleon Wise (age 26), and Wm Wise (age 15), and Martin Jackson (age 7). [7]

1870 Frederick Wise (age 63, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Mansfield Ward 1, Richland County, Ohio, in a household with Rosetta Wise (age 43), Napoleon Wise (age 34?), and Oliver P Wise (age 10). Frederick Wise's occupation was farmer. [8]

1872 The will of Frederick H Wise was recorded in Mansfield, Ohio, dated March 25, 1872. The will named wife Rosetta and children Napoleon, William, and Oliver P Wise. Oliver was a minor. Brother Henry Wise was named executor. Proved April 15, 1872. [9]

1872 Frederick Wise reportedly died in Mansfield, Ohio. [10]

1888 "On Monday morning Napoleon B. Wise, bachelor and aged about 52 years, was found dead in bed, at his room on East Third Street. He was a victim of consumption. His funeral occurred on Tuesday afternoon from the residence of Geo. C. Wise, on East Fourth Street, Rev. J.W. Hubbell officiating. The remains were interred under the auspices of the G.A.R." [11]

Research Notes:

1875 "Frederick Wise, of Mansfield, committed suicide on Monday of last week. Having been a soldier during the late war, his remains were escorted to the grave with military honors." [12]
