1860 Harriet Gangway (age 14, born in Ohio) lived in Vermillion, Ashland County, Ohio, at post office Hayesville, with Michael Gangway (age 45), Catherine Gangway (age 35), Sarah Gangway (age 12), Elizabeth Gangway (age 10), Joseph Gangway (age 8), Maria Gangway (age 6), Mary A Gangway (age 4), Albert Gangway (age 3), and Reuben Gangway (age 6/12). [1]

1871 On 19 November, Christian H. Holdeman and Harriet Gongway were married in Elkhart County, Indiana. [2]

1880 Harriet Haldeman (age 34) and C. N. Haldeman (age 32) lived in Olive Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana with children Annie C (age 8), Timothy H (age 6), John W (age 4), and Michael I (age 2). [3]

1886 Harriet Holdeman died (1846-1886) and was buried at Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa, Elkhart County, Indiana. [4]

1886 An obituary for Harriet Gongway Holdeman reported [5]:

Holdeman. - On the 2d of January, in Elkhart Co., Ind., of lung fever, Harriet, wife of Christian N. Holdeman, aged 40 years and 2 days. She was the mother of seven children the youngest of whom, an infant, preceded her only three days. She leaves a deeply sorrowing husband and six children to mourn the loss of a dear companion and a loving mother. Her greatest anxiety was to remain with her family until her children were grown and she would have the comfort of seeing them become Christians and members of the Church, but fully resigned herself to the will of God. She was a daughter of Michael Gongway, of Ashland Co., Ohio. She was buried on the 5th at Shaum's burying-ground. Services were conducted by J. S. Coffman, Henry Shaum and J. F. Funk.

1886 On 12 August, Mary Alice Holdeman, daughter of Christian Holdeman, died and was buried at Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa, Elkhart County, Indiana. [6]

1886 An obituary for daughter Mary Alice Holdeman reported [7]:

Holdeman. - On the 12th of August, in Elkhart Co., Ind., of fever, Mary Alice, daughter of Christian Holdeman, aged 5 years, 6 months and 24 days. After four weeks of intense suffering this bright little jewel was relieved of the pains and sorrows of earth and followed her mother, who less than a year ago died in a living faith in the promises of God. May God bless our deeply afflicted brother and sorrowing children.

1907 On 10 April, John Holdeman, born 5 April, 1876 in Wakarusa, Indiana, son of Christian N Holderman and Harriet Gongwer, married Alice Essig in Elkhart County, Indiana. The marriage was performed by Charles E. Rice. [8]

1911 Christian Holdeman died and was buried in Olive Cemetery, Wakarusa, Elkhart County, Indiana. [9]

1911 An obituary for Christian Holdeman reported [10]:

Holdeman.--Cristian N. Holdeman was born in Ashland Co., Ohio, Sept. 10, 1847, and peacefully fell asleep Feb. 5, 1911; aged 63 y. 4 m. 25 d. In 1850 he moved with his parents into the woods, in what is now the vicinity of Wakarusa, Ind. Here he grew up and at an early age he became thoroughly acquainted with the trials and hardships of the early pioneer life. Nov. 19, 1871, he was united in marriage to Harriet Gongner. His wife and 2 children preceded him to the spirit world in the year 1886. Nov. 24, 1889 he was united in marriage to Louisa Seidner. At the age of 17 he united with the Mennonite Church, in which he remained a faithful and active member to the time of his death. He always tried to be neighborly and considerate of the needs and wants of those with whom he met. His wife, 9 children, 7 grandchildren, 3 sisters and many other relatives and friends survive. Funeral services were conducted in the Olive Church near Elkhart, Ind., Feb. 8, 1911, by D. A. Yoder and P. E. Whitmer. Text, Matt. 25:21.

1918 Son, John Wesley Holdeman, born 5 April, 1876, registered for the draft. He was a school teacher and lived in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana. His nearest relative was Alice E. Holdeman, living at the same address as his own. [11]

1947 John W Holdeman (1876-1947) died and was buried at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart County, Indiana. [12]
