Notes for Richard Gildersleeve and Dorcas Williams

1658 Rich. Gildersleeve, Jr. was listed in an accounting of gates, cattle, and land in Hempstead, Long Island. [1]

1668 On May 22, "At ameting of the Constable and oversears Richard Gildersleve Juner was chosen foor Clark and is to have forti shilen in Corn for his clark shep for this preasent yeare." [2] [3]

1669 On 16 June, "at atoun meting and by mayer vote Richard Gildersleve was chosen Toun Clark for this in suing yeare and is to have forti shelings in corne lyckwise Richard Gildersleve was chos drommor for this next in suing yer and is to have twenty shilens may the first." [4] [5]

1670 "Hempsted may the .1. 1670 Richard Gildersleve was hired to be drummer for this next in suing yere and is to have twenty five shilens payd in corn and all so at the same time was chosen Toun Clark and is to have fory shilens for this in suing yere and in case the Scole master comes to the Town and the Town and the Scole master agre that the Toune hyer him to be Clark then the said Richard is to be payd according to the time he sorveth." 1678 "At a Jenerall townd meting Held in Hempsted the 19 day of June in the yere 1678 Richard Gillderslive was Chosen by the Majer Vote of the townd to be Cunstable for this insuing yere" [8]

1679 "Rich Gillderslive" and "Rich gillderslive Juner" were in a list of names above the words: "Att A Generall Towne Meetting helld att hempsted y'e 24 of June : 1679 itt was Voatted and Agreed apon tthatt those persons above named shall have libertty". [9]

1680 May 12, "Was sold at outcry, to Richard Gildersleeve, (old Mr. G.'s son,) the fort and the old meeting house, that part of the fort excepted that stands in Jeremy Wood's lot, for £2.12; in meeting house pay." [10]

1682 On May 24, Richard Gildersleeve [Gillderslive] J[unior] was on a list who agreed to live under the ministry of Jeremy Hubard and to pay [taxes] in "corn or cattell". [11]

1683 On 11 October, Richard Gildersleeve [Guildersleiff] Junior was named on a rates list for Hempstead with 0 heads, 12 [acres or morgens?] land and meadows, 2 oxen, 2 cows, 2 hogs, 0 sheep, and 2 horses. [12] [13]

1691 "will of Richard Gildersleeve: of Hempstead: no business named: dated 7 April 1690: proved 21 May 1691: to my wife "Darkis" (Dorcas?) Gildersleeve: to my son Richard Gildersleeve: to my son Thomas Gildersleeve land at "Merrock" (Merrick?): to my daughter Darkis (Dorcas?) wife of (Thomas) Lester: to my daughter Elizabeth Gildersleeve: to Phebe wife of ____ Thickstone (Thurston?): my four children: some pounds due me from the estate of Nathaniel Lynons: executor my son Richard Gildersleeve: witnesses John Searing and Joseph Pettit."
