1871 In the Canadian Census, John Ferguson (age 58, born in Scotland), and his wife Mary Ferguson (age 48, born in New Brunswick) lived in Bathurst, Gloucester, New Brunswick, with their children John (age 22), Alexander R. (age 20), Mary M. (age 14), Robert C. (age 12), Munro (age 10), Francis P. (age 10), and Allan (age 8). John (senior) was a merchant, and sons John and Alexander were clerks. [1]

The marriage of James Ferguson, Richibucto (Kent Co.) to Minnie Ferguson d/o Hon. Senator Ferguson was solmnized at the residence of the bride's father, Bathurst (Glouc. Co.) Wednesday eve. The bridesmaids were Miss Jean Ferguson and Miss Duncan. R. Racey was groomsman.

The death is announced of Hon. John Ferguson of Bathurst (Glouc. Co.) Mr. Ferguson was born in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1813. He received his eduction there and when a young man of 23 came to N.B. and settled at Bathurst. He carried on an extensive lumber and milling operation as a member of firm Ferguson, Rankine & Co. In 1864 he was appointed to Legislative Council and in 1867 to the Senate of Canada. In the militia he held the position of Lt. Col. 1st Battalion Gloucester and he was a member of the coucil of the Dominion Rifle Assoc.
