Notes for Abraham Scott and Ann Wright

Research Notes:

We suspect that Abraham Scott, son of Henry Scott, is the same person as Abraham Scott, husband of Anne Wright. However, his mother Jane would have been well over age 40 at his birth in 1750. Abraham would have been only age 18 in 1768, making an inventory with his father Henry.

1768 Henry Scott and Abraham Scott made inventory for the estate of Jonathan Tuly, of Mansfield Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. Dated June 9. Part of the estate had been purchased from Joseph Kemble. [1]

1775 A distribution was made to Abraham Scott, heir of Henry Scott for 1/6 share of the legacy of Samuel Scott, who died in his minority. Dated April 5. [2]

1787 Abraham and Joseph Scott made the inventory for the estate of James Ryan of Burlington Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. Dated March 14. [3]

1786 Abraham and Joseph Scott made the inventory for the estate of Jacob Shedaker of Burlington County, New Jersey. Dated October 15. [4]

1800 Abraham Scott Jr and Anne his wife, late Ann Wright one of the heirs of Abednego Wright deceased, sold land to William Wright on July 1. All were of Mansfield Twp, Burlington County. [5]

1841 Abraham Scott died on January 14, at age 91 at Springfield, of palsy. His death was announced on January 22, in the Burlington Gazette, the Burlington Gazette and New Jersey Agric. Register, and the Mount Holly Herald. [6]

"Abraham Scott died Jan. 20, 1841, aged ninety-one years, and his wife, Ann Wright, died aged about fifty-six years. He was four years old when his father, Henry, settled on the Scott homestead in Springfield township in 1754, and this property having been in the family since, also descended to his only surviving child, Esther Scott. The original Scott homestead is located in Burlington township, where it was settled by Benjamin Scott in 1677, and is owned and occupied by Mrs. Margaret H. Hancock, daughter of the late John Scott, a descendant from Benjamin Scott, the progenitor of the Scott family in New Jersey." [7]
