Notes for Roger Bigod and Alice de Tosny

Adelicia de Tosny "Adelisa or Alice, daughter and eventual heiress of Robert de Tosny of Belvoir. She married Roger Bigod (d. 1107) and survived him for many years as lady of Belvoir. She made a grant for his soul to Thetford priory, which they had co-founded (BL Lansdowne 229, fol. 146r). She occurs as lady of Belvoir on the 1129/30 Pipe Roll, and in a writ of Stephen of about 1136, but was soon afterwards succeeded by her daughter Cecilia and her husband William I de Albini Princerna. None of her Belvoir property passed to her sons, though her youngest son Hugh eventually inherited the fee of her sister Albreda, heir of their brother Berenger. [1]
