Notes for Angus Jennings and Charlotte Delahoy

1812 Charlotte Delahoy, daughter of James Olivant Delahoy and his wife Elizabeth, was born on September 19 in St Alphage Greenwich, Kent, England. [1] [2]

This is to certify, that Charlotte Delahoy, daughter of James Olivant Delahoy and Elizabeth his wife, who was daughter of John & Elizabeth Omer, was born in No. 6 Deptford Bridge in the Parish of St Alphege, Greenwich, in the County of Kent the Nineteenth day of September in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twelve at whose birth we were present Charlotte Omer, J. H. Shirreff, M.D. Registered at Dr. William's Library, Redcross street, near Cripplegate, London. Sep. 23. 1831

1847 The Observer, March 22 (p. 8) reported "Married - 15th at the British Embassy, Paris, Mr. Angus Jennings of London, to Charlotte, youngest daughter of the late Mr. Delahoy, of Greenwich." (Also reported on March 18 in the London Times.)

1848-1849 Anjus Jennings advertized in The Times of London his "Desiccating or Drying Process, (Davison and Symington's Patent).--To Manufacturers and others requireing Dry Power this process has been pronounced by those who have adopted it nearly three years as "surpassing everything before seen, or tried, for the efficience, purity, cleanliness, cheapness, expedition," and it nay be added safety. It has already been applied to no less than 15 distinct branches of trade, with equal and most perfect success, from the drying of the thinest paper, or the most delicate fabric, to the roasting of coffee, and such like substances, in other wrods generating a continuous and controllable temperature, varying from that of the atmosphere to 500 to 600 degrees, if required, and attended with many important advantages not obtainable by hot flues, cockles, steam, hot water pipes, &c. 1861 England Census: Angus Jennings, age 45, East India merchant, and wife Charlotte Delahoy age 46 and daughters Charlotte Sophia age 7, Alice Elizabeth age 6, and Katharina age 5 lived in Acton, Middlesex.

1871 Census: Angus Jennings age 55, East India merchant, wife Charlotte age 56, son Gilbert age 21, merchants clerk, and daughters Charlotte Sophia age 17, scholar, and Alice Elizabeth age 16, scholar, lived at 259 Camden Rd in Islington St Luke, London.

1877 The Times of London reported "The Bankruptcy Act of 1869--In the London Bankruptcy Court In the Matter of proceedings for liquidation by arrangement or composition with the Creditors instituted by Angus Jennings and Gilbert Delahoy Jennings both of 28 Gracechurch Street in the City of London and 259 Camden Road in the County of Middlesex, Mercants, trading as Jennings Son & Co. William Freeman Jack of 9 Moorgate Street in the City of London Accountant has been Appointed Trustee of the property of the Debtors. All persons having in their possession any of the effects of the Debtors must deliver them to the Trustee and all debts due to the Debtors must be paid to the Trustee. Creditors who have not yet proved their debts must forward their proofs of debts to the Trustee.--Dated this first day of June 1877. C. H. Keene Registrar [4]
