1302 Ralph de Lathbury, as an attorney, made a covenant related to the manor of Esseford. [1]

Covenant by Robert de Sallowe and Ralph de Lathbury, attorneys of Dom. Ralph Pypard to pay to Thomas de Macclesfeud £29 us., the assessed value of the crops, farm implements, etc., upon the manor of Esseford, of which the said Thomas was formerly farmer; f1nding security for the said payment in the persons of Richard in-le-Dale, John in-le-Graue, Simon de Crumford, Thomas le Roo, Henry Bouryng, Elias fil. Ric. de Longesdon, and others. Dat. W. b. F of St. Lucy [13 Dec], 31 Edw. I. [1302]. (Add. 37250.)

1324 On March 4, John de Bolingbrok, escheator, was ordered to take up the lands of Margaret, late the wife of Ralph de Lathebury, deceased. [2]

Order to John de Bolingbrok, escheator in the counties of Warwick, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Lancaster, to take into the king's hand the lands late of Margaret late the wife of Ralph de Lathebury, deceased, tenant in chief.

1324 Margaret, wife of Ralph de Latthebury, died, and son Ralph (age 16) inherited the estate. [3]:

Egynton. A messuage, 40a. arable, 6a. meadow, 6l. 16s. 0d. rents, and a fourth part of a water-mill, with 40s. rent in Ambaston as parcel of Egynton; all held of Ralph de Freschevill in chief by foreign service.

Chaddesdene. 59a. land held of Thomas de Derley by service of 2s, 6d. yearly.

Murkaston. 25a. land held of Robert de Scheldeford by service of 2s. 6d. yearly; and 65a. land and 10a. meadow, held of Henry le Blount by service of 2s. ll½d. yearly.
Ralph son of the said Ralph de Lattthebury, aged 16 and more, is her next heir.

1324 On April 28, John de Bolingbrok, escheator, published the inquisition for Margaret, late the wife of Ralph de Lathebury. [4]

April 28. Order to John de Bolingbrok, escheator in the counties of Warwick, Fulmer. Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Lancaster,—pursuant to an inquisition made by him shewing that Margaret late the wife of Ralph de Lathebury held of the king on the day of her death 3 bovates of land in Hethhouses, co. Derby, by the service of a pound of cummin yearly as of the honour of Tuttebury, which is in the king's hand, and that she held no other lands in chief whereby the wardship of other her lands should pertain at present to the king, but held divers other lands of other lords by divers services,—to retain in the king's hand the said 3 bovates until further order, and to meddle no further with other her lands, delivering the issues thereof received from the time of the taking thereof into the king's hand to those whose they are.

1325 On September 16, John de Bolingbrok, escheator, reported on lands held by Margaret, at the time of her death. [5]

Order to John de Bolingbrok, escheator in the counties of Warwick, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Lancaster,—pursuant to an inquisition made by him shewing that Margaret late the wife of Ralph de Lathebury held on the day of her death 3 bovates of land in Heethhouses, co. Derby, in chief as of the honour of Tuttebury, which is in the king's hand, by the service of a pound of cummin yearly, and that Ralph de Lathebury, her son, is her nearest heir and was of the age of sixteen years and more on Saturday before St. George the Martyr, 17 Edward II,—to deliver to the said Ralph the said land, he having done fealty.

1326 On June 23, John de Bolingbrok, escheator, was ordered to take up the lands of Ralph, son of Ralph de Lathebury, deceased. [6]

Order to John de Bolingbrok, escheator in the counties of Warwick, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Lancaster, to take into the king's hand the lands late of Ralph son of Ralph de Latthebury, deceased, tenant in chief.

1326 Son Ralph died and son Robert inherited the estate. [7]:

Hethouses. 205. yearly rent held of the king as of the honour of Tuttebury, now in the king's hand through the forfeiture of Thomas late earl of Lancaster, by service of 1lb. cummin to be paid to the castle of Tuttebury.

Eginton. A capital messuage, 30a. arable, 6a. meadow, a fourth part of a water-mill, and 5l. rent, and 205. yearly rent in Ambaldston, held of Ralph Frechevill and his heirs by service of 1/8 knight's fee.

Robert his brother, aged 15 and more, is his next heir.

1326 On July 19, Westminster, John de Bolingbrok, escheator, published results of an inquisition for Ralph, son of Ralph de Lathebury. [8]

July 19. Order to John de Bolingbrok, escheator in the counties of Warwick, Westminstor. Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Lancaster,—pursuant to an inquisition made by him shewing that Ralph son of Ralph de Latthebury held on the day of his death certain lands in Hethouses, co. Derby, of the king as of the honour of Tuttebury, in the king's hand, by the service of rendering a pound of cummin at the castle of Tuttebury at Christmas yearly, and that he held no other lands in chief as of the crown, and that Robert de Lattheburyj his brother, is his nearest heir and of the age of fifteen years and more,—to take the fealty of the said Robert and to deliver to him the lands held of the said honour, and to meddle no further with other lands held by Ralph of other lords, delivering any issues thereof received by him to those whose they are, and to certify the king of the said fealty.
