Notes for Ralph fitz Geremund and Hawise

"Ralf fitz Geremund, father of William fitz Ralf, gave 'decimam molendini sui de Burgo' to a certain baker of Derby." [1]

Radulf Filius Germundi: "Held two fees of Ralph Alselin and half a fee of Robert II de Cauz in 1166. In the Darley cartulary (BL Cotton Titus, cix, fol. 65) Alexander Hanselin confirmed a grant by Hawise widow of Ralph Fitz Geremund. His daughter Margery was the first wife of Serlo de Grendone, by whom she was the mother of three daughters and five sons, according to a history of Dale abbey (Mon. Ang. vi. 2, p. 894). where Ralph had established a hermitage at the site of the later abbey. His heir was his son William fitz Ralph, sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire from 1168 to 1180 and seneschal of Normandy from 1178 until his death in 1200. William's heirs at his death were his three daughters, of whom the eldest, Edelina, was wife of Hubert fitz Ralph of Crick (d. 1225)." [2]

1166 "Notinghamscira. Carta Radulfi Ansel. Domino suo Henrico Regi Anglorum, Radulfus Ansel salutem et fidele servitum. Sciatis quod de veteri feffamento meo, tempore Regis Genrici ave vestri, Willemus Ansel de Wagreby tenet feoda duorum militim. ... Radulfus filius Gerimund, feoda ij militum." [3]

1166 "Notinghamscira. Carta Roberti de Chauz. De feodo Roberti de Chauz: ... Radulfus filius Gerimund, dimidium feodum." [4]

1200 Sister Alice of Derby and her niece made grants to and received a lease from the Darley abbey. [5]
