Notes for Nicholas Pankhurst and Barbara Geere

1613 Thomas Geere's daughter Barbara "may have been the one that married Nycolas Pacaste (i.e. Pankhurst) 14 June 1613 at Ovingdean, Sussex (IGI)." [1]

1620 Nicholas Panckehurst of Iford, Sussex, wrote his will on April 26. His will was proved at the Archdeaconry Court of Lewes in Chichester in May 1622. [2] Hunt provides an abstract of the will of Nicholas Panckehurst, identifying it as from the Court of the Archdeaconry of Lewes and on file in the East Sussex Record Office. "26th April 1620, Nicholas Panckehurst of Iford, Sussex. My body to be buried in the churchyard of Iford. To the poor of Ilford 5s. To my daughter Joane Panckehurst all lands and lease thereof and all woods and underwoods therein lying in Wivelsfield, called "Rookehurst," containing about 6 acres. While Barbara my wife remains a widow, 2 loads of wood every year from said lands in Wivelsfield. To my daughter Joane Panckehurst, £15 on marriage or at age 21. On her death the lands and lease to my daughter Annis Panckehurst and her heirs. To my daughter Elizabeth Panckehurst £40 to remain in the handes of executrix and on her decrease to be paid to my overseers to be kept for daughter Elizabeth Panckehurst. To my daughter Annis Panckehurst £40 on marriage or at age 21. On her death the £40 to be devided amongst the rest of my children. To the child which my wife is carrying £15 at marriage or age 21. To my maidservant Dennis Mershe 10s. To my servant Thomas Mantle 10s at age 21 years. To my grandchildren [is this not properly godchildren?] Nicholas Stroud, John Adeane and Thomas Geere a ewe teg [a yearling sheep] each. To all the rest of my godchildren 12d each. All the rest to Barbara my wife, sole executrix. Witnesses: Thomas Geere, Geo. Seager. Probate 21 May 1622." [3]

1623 Barbara Panckhurst of Iford, Sussex, widow of Nicholas, wrote her will on May 4. Her will was proved at the Archdeaconry Court of Lewes in Chichester the same month. [4] Hunt provides an abstract of the will of Barbara Panckhurst, identifying it as from the Court of the Archdeaconry of Lewes and on file in the East Sussex Record Office. "4th May 1623, Barbara Pankhurst, widow of Nicholas Pankhurst, late of Iford. My bodie to be buried in churchyard of Iford. To Simon Johnson, Henry Stroud, Thomas Baker, William Mershe and William Morrice, poor men of Ilford, 12d each. To the widow Collier, the widow Peckham, the widow Jeffrey, the widow Lansing and to Tomson Collier 6d each. To my daughter Elizabeth £10, to be paid at age 21, or if dead by then, to be divided equally among her sisters. To daughters Anne and Barbara, 4 brass pots, sheets, bedclothes, pillows. To my servantmaid Dennis March 20s, provided she dwells as servant where my children be kept. To my servant John Peckham 2s 6d. The rest to my daughter Joan, sole executrix. My brother Dennis Geere to be overseer and to be guardian of my children.To Mary Johnson and Anne Sherry 2s each. Witnesses: Ralph Kelway, Thomas Geere, Stephen Ridge. Probate 22nd May 1623" [5]
