1778 Jacob Adam, John Adam Jr, and Peter Adam, perhaps sons of John Adam, all took the oath of allegiance in Washington County on Henry Schnebeley's returns. [1] William Adam was listed on John Barnes' return. [2] [3] [4]

1788 William Adams was taxed as a resident in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennylvania for 100 land. His brother, Peter, was also taxed. [5]

1789 William Adams was listed as subject to militia duty in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. [6]

1790 William Adams lived in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in a household with 1 males age 16 and over, and 2 females. Peter Adams and Conrad Nicodemus were listed adjacent. [7]

1791 William Adams was taxed in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennylvania.

1798 William Adams was named on the US Direct tax list for Bedford County, living in Woodbury Twp on a lot owned by Alex Alexander. William Adams was listed as owner [no other occupant] of a 400 acre lot in Woodbury Twp with a house (25 by 16 feet) and two outhouses and two barns adjacent to Philip Kine. [8] [9] [10]

1800 William Adams lived in Hopewell and Woodberry, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 2 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 1 (10 thru 15) and 1 (26 thru 44). [11]

1800 William Adams was listed on the septennial census for Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. [12]

1808 William Adams inherited 400 acres of land in Bedford County, on which William was living, from the estate of his father, John Adams. [13] The will was cited in subsequent deeds [14] [15]

1812 William Adam and his wife Gertrout of Woodbury Twp sold 17 acres of land on Clover Creek in Morrison's Cove, Woodbury Twp, Bedford County to Conrad Nicodemus on May 30, for ten dollars. The land had been granted to John Adam late of Washington County, Maryland, father of William Adam. The land originally had two warrants, one granted to Jacob Niederer in February 1776 and sold to John Adams on December 22, 1798 and the other warrant dated April 9, 1792 to John Adam. John Adam received a patent for the land on February 8, 1802 [16] [17]. On May 30, 1812, Conrad Nicodemus and wife Margaret sold 19 acres of land, which had previously been patented to Jacob Smith deceased, to William Adams for ten dollars. Perhaps the two sales represented a trade of land. [18]

1812 Conrad Nicodemus and wife Margaret sold land to William Adam, all of Woodberry Twp, Bedford County on May 30. The land was in Morrison's Cove adjacent to lands of Conrad Nicodemus and William Adam. Conrad had received a patent for the land on February 7, 1812 (Patent H8-12). [19]

1814 Peter Adam, William Adam, William Adam Jr, and Andrew Adam were taxed in Woodberry Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. William was listed with 460 acres Patent. [20]

1817 William Adams and William Adams Jr were listed in Woodberry Twp, Bedford County (tax list?). [21]

1820 William Adams lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (45 and over); and females: 1 (45 and over). Nearby listings included William Adams Jr (age 26-44), John Adams (age 16-26), Mary River, Peter Winebrenner, Henry Grub, and Edward Cowan. [22]

1824 William Adam dated his will on October 30, in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Wife Gertraut inherited the house and care by two sons, William and John, who were to inherit the entire estate, of about 400 acres, upon her death. Grand-daughter Susanna Smith, intermarried with Daniel Eversole and Mary Smith each received $400. The proceeds from the tanyard erected by Henry Grub on two acres of the plantation were to be divided between the sons, upon expiration of the lease. John Weiland and John Metzgar were named executors. Witnessed by Henry Breidenthal, Henry Gribb, and Henry Grub. Probate on December 21, 1824. [23] [24] [25]

1827 At the August Court, the account of Gertrait Adams was administered by John Wineland, at the Bedford Orphans' Court. [26]

1830 William Adams (age 40-49) lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania with a family including 2 males (age 10-14). George Nichodemus was listed nearby. [28]

1830 John Adams (age 30-39) and female (age 30-39) and children lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. A female (age 60-69) lived with them, perhaps Gertrude Adams. [29]

1830 Henry Grubb (age 30-39) lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Grubb (age 30-40) was listed adjacent. [31]

1830 Daniel Grub (age 50-59) lived in Pike Twp, Knox County, Ohio, with 2 daughters age 15-20 and others. [33]

1831 William Adams and Elizabeth Grub were married on August 23, in Knox County, Ohio. [34] [35] [36]

1840 William Adams (age 40-49) and female (age 50-59) lived in Woodbury Twp, Bedford County, Pennsylvania with a family. [37]

1840 John Adam (age 30-39) and female (age 30-39) lived in Morris Twp, Knox County, Ohio with young children. [38]

1840 William Adams (age 20-30) and female (age 20-30) lived in Pike Twp, Knox County, Ohio with young children. David Grubb lived adjacent. [39] [40]

1840 William Adams (age 50-59) and female (age 20-29) lived in Pike Twp, Knox County, Ohio with young children. [41] [42]

William Adams had a son William, born in Pennsylvania.

William, son of William Adams, married Susanah Grubb, daughter of Elizabeth Grubb, his step-mother.

1841 William and Elizabeth Grubb Adams had a son Israel Adams.

1844 Son Israel Adams was born to William Adams and Elizabeth Grubb.

Note that there are two men named William Adams (father and son), married to Grubb sisters, each of whom had sons named Israel Adams, by this account.

1844 Elizabeth Grubb Adams, wife of William Adams, died on April 9, at age 31y 3m 21d, and was buried at Bassett Cemetery, Knox County, Ohio. [43]

1850 William Adams (age 58) and Polly Adams (age 30) lived in Monroe, Knox County, Ohio with several children. [44]

1865 William Adams died on March 10, at age 74y 1m 20d, and was buried at Bassett Cemetery, Knox County, Ohio. [45]

1873 The estate of Daniel Grubb of Knox County, Ohio, reported that heir Elizabeth Grubb intermarried with Wm Adams is dead, leaving 5 children, including Sarah Hamilton, Simon Adams, David Adams, Susan Ghoram, Israel Adams. [46]

1916 Isrel Adams, born in Knox County, Ohio, son of William Adams and Susanna Grubb, died at age 76 in Illinois. [47]
