1561 "Stephen Tomlyn christened xxth of Aprill" at St Peter, Bekesbourne, Kent, England. [1] [2]

1595 "The second day of October were maryed Stephan Tomlin & Mary Sampson" at St Mary Breadman, Canterbury, Kent. [3]

1596/07 "Sibill daughter of Steven Tomlin was christened the second daye of Januarij" in St Peter, Thanet, Kent. [4]

1598 "Steven the son of Steven Tomlin" was christened on November 26 in St Peter, Thanet, Kent. [5]

1600 "John sonn of Steven Tomlin was christened the xxvth day of October" in St Peter, Thanet, Kent. [6]

1602 "Mary the daughter of Steuen Tomlin" was baptized the "xijth September" in St Peter, Thanet, Kent. [7] (The parish register entries for 1602-1604 are missing but appear in the archdeaconry transcripts).

1605 Stephen Tomlin wrote his will on April 2

In the name of god amen the second day of Aprill in the yeare of the reigne of our sovereigne lorde kinge James by the grace of God of England, Fraunce and Ireland defender of the faith &c the thurde abd if Scotland eight ad thirteth anno dni 1605 I Stephen Tomlin of the parish of St Johns in the Isle of Thannett in the Countie of Kent yoeman, beinge sicke in body but of perfect mynde and eory thanke be to God therfore doe ordeyne and make this my last will and testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) First I bequeathe my soule vnto allmightie God creator redeemer and onely saviour; and my body to the earth to be buryed at the church of the parish of St Peter in the said Isle at the discretion of my executrix heere vnder naed Item I will and bequeath vnto the poore people of the said parishe of St Peters ten shilligns of currant monie of England, and other ten shillings of like monie to the poore people of the saide parishe of St Johns to be distributed vnto them immediately after my decease at the discretion of my executri heereunder aed, Item I will and bequeath to Sybell my daughter fiftie pounds of currant monie of ENgland to be paide vnto her at her age of eighteene yeeres. Item I likewyse will and bequeath to Mary my daughter other fiftie pounds of currant monie of England at her age ofeighteene yeeres And yf anie of my said two daughters happen to departe this lyfe before her saide age of eighteene yeeres or her daye of marriage Then I will the survivor of them to be the others heire of her saide portion. Item I will and bequeath vnto John my sonne three hundred pounds of good and lawfull monie of England wch said three hundred pounds I will that my executrix heerevnder named shall pay over vnto my overseers heerevnder named or to the survivor of them or to there or either of there eecutors or executor within sixe yeeres next after my decease, wch three hundred pounds being paide over vnto my said overseers or the survivor of them theire executors of executor I authoryze and appointe by this my present testament and last will my saide overseers or the survivor of them there oor titerh of theire executors or executor to laye out and bestowe the same three hundre pounds in lands and tenements to be purchased to the proper vse of my said sonne John and of his heires for ever within as short tye as conveniently they may after the receipt of the said three hundred pounds so to be paidover as above aide And yf in case my executrix heereunder named shall refuse to paye over vnto my overseers heerevndr name the saide three hundred pounds in manner as aforsaide Then I will that it shall be lawfull for my overseers heerevnder named to vse all lawfull meanes by course of lawe, to cayse y executrix heerevnder named to paye the same, and shee not livinge to vse the like meanes against her executors or administrators And also uf in case the same three hundred pounds shall not be paid over as aboue said accordinge to the true meaninge of this my last wlll and testament that it shall be lawfull also for my over seers heerevnder named to taje abd receive all the profitts of my lands and teements vntil my sonne Stephen or my eldest sonne wch shall be living shall come to the age of fifteen years, or till the same three hundred pounds shall not be recovered by lawe ootherwyse ANd for non payment of the profitts of the said lands and tenements towards the payment of the saide three hundred pounds as aboue saide that it shall be lawfull for my overseers heeere vnder named or there executors to enter into all and singuler my lands and tenements and thre to distrayne from tyme to tyme, and the goodsand chattells distreyned to sell towards the payent of the saide three hundred pounds yf neede require, Vntil the same three hundred pounds by fully received. I Provided allwaies and my will and meaninge is that my executriz heerevnder nee shall receiue the profitts of all the said lands and tenement sot to by purchased to the vse of my said sonne John and his heires vntil he shall come to the age of fifteene yeeres ANd from and after that my said sonne John shall accomplishe the age of fifteen years Then I will that my overseers heeere vnder name from thencefoorth shall receyve haue and take the one halfe of the benefit or profit of the said lands and tenements so to by purchased vntil my said sonne John shall come to the age of twentye and one yeeres And from and after the same John my sonne shall accomplishe the age of twentie and one yeers that all and singular the same lands and tenements with the appurtanances sot to be purchases as above said shal whollremeine to the proper vse of the said John my sone and of his heires and assignes forever, ad the said profitts so to be receiued by my said overseers for the one halfe of the said lands and tenement to be by them paid over to my said sonne John at his full age of one and twentie yeeres. Item I will and bequeath vnto my naturall mother now the wyfe of Richard Thetcher duringe her naturall lyfe yeerely ten shillings of lawful monie of England, to be paid vnto her at thannunciation of the virgin Mary and St Michaell the archangell by even portions, the first payment to begynne at that feast of the said fealtfull daies wch shall next happen after my decease and for non payment thereof that it shall and my be lawfull for my said Mother to enter and distreyne in anie of the lands or tenements heerevnder mentioned bequeathe to the saide John my sonne or be purchased to his vse as aboue said Item I will an bequeath vnto my brother William Tomlyn one annuitie or yeerely rent of ten shillings of Currant monied of ENgland to be paid to the said William duringe hys naturall lyfe at the reast daies of the annunciation of the virgyn Mary and St Michaell the Srchangell y even protions, the first payment to begyne at the feast of the said feats wch shal next happen after my decease and for non payment thereof that it shall be lawfull to and for the saide William Tomlyn to all the lands and tenements heerevnder bequeathed to the saide Stephen my sonne to enter and distreyne. Item I will and bequeth vnto my two sister Johne Trapham and Mary Tomlyn to either of the twentie shillings of currant monie of England to be paid immediately after my decease The residue of all my moveable goods and Chattells whatsoever m debts and lagacies beinge paide, and my funerall expenses discharged I whollygeve and bequeath vnto Mary my wyfe in full satisfacton of all her dower and other interest and tetle whatsoever in or to all my lands and tenements whatsoever and for the bringing vp of my said children during there nonage shc Mary I make and ordaine my sole executrix of this my last will and testament and my brother in lawe John Sacket of the said parish of St Peters, and my brother John Tomlyn overseers heereof to see this my last will and testament performed according to the entent and true meaning heereof, and for there paines heerin to be taken (over and aboue there reasonable costs and charges by them an anie tyme to ve laied out about the premisses) I will to either of therm fiftie shillings of currant monie of Entladn those beinge witnesses William Dadde Vencent Nethersole and Richard Culmer.
This is the last wyll and testament of me the saide Stephen Tomlyn made the day and yeere aboue said of and vpon the disposition of all my lands, and tenements scituate and beinge in the said parishe of St Peters and in the parishe of St Laurence in the said Isle or else wheare First I will and bequeath vnto Stephen my sonne all that my messuage or tenement called Hylings with all the edifices buildings, courts, yards, gardens and lands arrable pasture and wood to the same tenement belonginge and apperteyninge with the appurtenances, scituate lyinge and beinge in the said parish of St Laurence and in the said parish of St Peters lately purchased by me the said Stephen Tomlyn of John Curlynge of the said parish of St Laurence yeoman And also I will and bequeath vnto the said Stephen my sonne one other parcell of land lyinge at the sowth end of Hayne in the said parish of St Laurence now beinge enclosed conteyning by estimation six acres wch I purchased of William Richardsonne: to be had to the said Stephen my sonne to the proper vse of the same Stephen and his heires and assignes for ever. Provided allwaies that the said Mary my wyfe shall receiue and take the profit and revenues of the said lands and tenements so bequeathed to the said Stephen my sonne untill the same Stephen shall accomplish the age of Fifteene yeeres Then I will my said overseers or the survivor of them or there or either of there executors or executor shall receiue to the vse of the same Stephen my sonne the one halfe of the profitts and revenues of the said lands and tenements so bequeathed to the said Stephen vntill the same Stephen shall accomplish his age of one and twentie yeeres and the said Mary my wyfe the other halfe of the arrerrages therof vntill the said Stephen my sonne shall accomplish his said age of one and twenty yeares And when the said Stephen my sonne shall accomplish his saide age of twenty and one yeares Then I will my said overseers shall pay over vnto my said sonne Stephen his heires or assignes all such rents and profitts what so ever which my overseers heerevnder named or the survivor of them or there or either of there executors or executor shall receive for and in respect of the rents and profitts of the one halfe of the said lands and tenements as aforesaid so bequeathed to the said Stephen. Item I will and bequeath vnto the said John my sonne all that my parte and purparte that is to say two parts of one cottage or tenement and by estimation foure acres and a halfe of lande to the same with the appurtenances (the same beinge devided into three parts) scituate lyinge and beinge in the said parishe of St Peters at a place there called Romfeilde to be had to the saide John my sonne at his age of twenty and one yeeres to ye proper vse of the same John his heires and assignes forever Provided allwaies that the said Mary my wyfe shall take and receive the profitts and benefitt of my saide parte of the said tenement and lands vntill my saide sonne shall accomplishe his age of twentie and one yeeres Provyded also that neither the said Mary my wyfe, or anie other in her right shall challenge or clayme anie right or interest in respect of her tytle of dower of and in my saide lands and tenement or anie parte thereof And also yf in case the said Mary shall contract her selfe in marriage with anie other, the the same person or persons wch shall so entend to marry with the said Mary before such matrimonie or matrimonies to be solemnized together with one sufficient suretie at the least to the good lykinge of my said overseers or the survivor of them or there or either of there executors or executor in the summe of four hundred pounds that what sooever the said Mary or her executors or administrators is, are, or shall be charged to paye, doe or performe shall be well and truely paide, done and performed accordinge to the true tenor importe, meaninge and effect of this my last will and testament But yf in case that either the said Mary or anie other in her right shall challenge and recover anie dowry in or out of my said lands and tenements or anie parte thereof, or that such person or persons wch soe shall marry with the said Mary shall refuse to enter into bond in manner and forme as above mentioned that then I will that neither the said Mary my wyfe nor anie other in her right shall challenge, clayme, have or recieue, anie legacy, guifte or graunt either of my goods or chattels, or anie benefit out of anie of my tenements or lands above mentioned but that my said overseers or the survivor of them there or either of there executors or executor shall receiue and take all and singuler my said goods and chattells together with the profitts of all and singuler my saide lands and tenements to the proper use and benefit of my children aboue named, and towards the payment of my debts and legacies as aboue mentioned in such manner and sorte as the said Mary my wyfe should doe yf she kept herslefe vnmarried and without claime or challenge of dower, and guifte, graunte proviso or clause or sentence before mentiond in this my last will and and testament to the contrary not with standinge. In witnes whereof I the said Stephen Tomlyn have heere vnto set my hande and seale dated the day and yeere first aboue written in the presence of the witness aboue named vizt William Dadds Vincent Nethersole and Richard Culmer the marke of the saide Stephen Tomlyn.

1605 "Stephan Tomlin was buried the xxiijth of September" in St Peter, Thanet, Kent. [8] The burial was also recorded in the St John, Margate, register which notes that he was buried in St Peter, Thanet, per his request in his will. [9]

1605 The will of Stephen Tomlyn was proved on November 18 an December 4 in the Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury.

1605/06 Geoffrey Sandwell, of Minster in Thanet, yeoman, and Mary Tomlyne of St. John Baptist in Thanet, w. [widow] received a license to be married at Minster on January 21. [10]

1605/06 "Galfridus Sandwell et Maria Tomlin" were married on February 4 at St. Mary Minster, Thanet, Kent. [11]

1606 "Maria filia Galfridi Sandwell" was baptized on November 23 at St. Mary Minster, Thanet, Kent. [12]

1608 "Galfridus filius Galfridi Sandwell" was baptized on October 23 at St. Mary Minster, Thanet, Kent. [13]

1610 "Maria uxor Galfridi Sandwell" was buried on September 19 at St. Mary Minster, Thanet, Kent. [14]

1613 Geoffrey Sandwell, of Minster in Thanet, and Emma Sprott of Eastwell, w. [widow] received a license to be married at St. M. Bredman's, Cant., on July 3. [15] "The third day of July were maried Galfride Sandwell of ye xish of Minster in Thanet and Emme Sprott of Eastwell, widowe, per Lic." [16]

1616 "Maria Sandwell filia Galfridi Sandwell" was buried on June 14 at St. Mary Minster, Thanet, Kent. [17]

1616 Jeffery Sandwell of the parish of Minster in the Isle of Thanet wrote his will on November 17.

In the name of God Amen the Seaventeenth day of Nouember in the yeares of the Raigne of our Souereigne Lord James by the grace of god Kinge of England Scotland Fraunce & Ireland defendor of the faith &c That is to say of his highnes Raigne of England Fraunce and Ireland the Fowerteeth and of Scotland the Fifteth 1616 I Jeffery Sandwell of the parish of Minster in the Isle of Thanett in the Countye of Kent yeoman beinge in good health & of good & perfect remembrance prayse be vnto the Allmightie God therefore do ordeyne and make this my Testament & last will in manner & forme foloweinge That is to say First I bequeath my soule vnto Allmightie God my maker & Redeemer and my body to the earth to be buried in the Parish Church of Minster aforesaid Item I will and bequeath to the poore people of the said parish of Minister Thirtie shillinges of lawfull Englishe money to be ditributed amongst them at the discreation of my Executors immediately after my decease Item I giue toward the reparcons of the parish CHurch of Minster aforesadi Twenty shillings of like money of England Item I doe remitt and forgiue vnto my servant William Coffain all such dutyes debts and Sumes of money as he oweth vnto mee Item I giue vnto Emme my wife Forthy shillings to make her a Ringe of Gould to be payd vnto her within one moneth after my decease Item I giue and bequeath vnto Richard Sandwell my Brother One Annuityu of yeerely Rent of Six Pownds Thirteene shillings issueing our of all my messuages, lands, Tenements and hereditaments with the appurtences wch I haue hereafter herein giuen and bequethed to my sonne Jeffery Sandwell to be paid vnto him the sayd Richard dureing his naturall life at two vsuall Feastes or tearmes in the yeare that is to say at the Feaste of St Michaell Tharchangell & of Thannuciacon of the blesed virgin Mar by equall and even porcons THe First payment tereof to beginne and bee at the Feast aforesaid wch shall First happen after my decease And yt it shall happen the said yeerely rent of Five pounds or any parte or parcell thereof to be behinde & vnpaid in parter or in all after any of the said Feaste Dayes of payment in wch yt shall ought to be paid as aforesaid That then it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said Richard his Assignes and Assignee and ejuery or any of them into the said Messuadges Lands Tenements & hereditaments with the Appurtences and moueables or any part of them to enter and distreine for the same and the distresse and distresses there taken or to be take from theme lawfull ot Lead Drive, beare, and Carry away & with hime them or any of them to deteyne and Keepe vntill the said Annualty yerely Rente of Five pounds and all tharrearages thereof shalbe vnot him ot them fully satisfyed & payed Item I give and bequeath my Lease wch I hold of Mr Edward Crispe Sonne of Sr Henry Crispe deceassed and to other Leases of Certeyne Lands belonginge to te Mannor of Deane lyeinge in the parish of St. John Baptiste in the foresaid Isle of Thannett and COunty of Kent and all other my leases what soeuer and all my estate, interest and terme of yeeres in the said Leases & every or any of them of in & to the messuags, lands, Tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances in the layd Leases or any of them menconed expressedor conteyned to my Soone Jeffery Sandwell his heires Executor and administrators Item I further giue and bequeath vnto my said Sonne Jefferey Sandwell and to the heires of his body lawfully to be begotton all my messuages lands Tenements and herediments with all and Singular their appurtenances lyeint and beinge in the seuerall parishes of Minster aforesaid St John Baptist and St Lawrence or els where within the foresayd Isle of Thanett to him and to his heires for ever And yf yt shall happen the sayd Jeffery my Sonne to dye without yssue of heires of his body lawfully begotten then I will the that the same mesuadges, Lands, tenemtns and Hereditaments with thappurtenances shalbe and remayne to the heires Males of the Body of my foresaid Brother Richard Sandwell and to the heires of their bodyes lawfully begotten fore ever eually to be devided amongst them Itm I doe make and ordeyne my Cossen Francis Saunders of Mounckton gentleman and Will Barlett thelder of Minster aforesaid yoman executors of this my Testament and last will and in regard of their paynes to be taken therin I give and bequath to either of them the some of Five pounds of lawfull money of England Item I doe ordeyne Thomas Pentris of the Cittie of Canterbury gent And Nicholas Constant of the parish of Minster aforesaid yeoman overseers of this my last will and Testament whome I intreate to see this same fully executed and performed ANd in parte of satisfaction of their paynes therein I bequeath to each of them three pounds of lawfull Englishe money Item my will is and I doe intreate and appointe my wel beloued cossen Francis Saunders to take vpon him the Custody of my said sonne Jeffery Sandwell vntill he shall come vnot the age of one and Twentie yeeres dureing wch tyme I will the sayde Francis Saunders shall have the lettinge and dispossening of such messuages Lands and Tenements with the appurtenances as I have before giuen and bequeathed vnto my said sonne both of such as I have any estate of in heritance in or and lease or Terme of yeeres The sayd Fraunces Saunders Dureing the sayd time keepeing the same sufficiently repared and preservinge such wood and timbar as now or at any time during the said terme shall stand and grow in or vppon the premisses or any parte thereof And also payeing the rents sch from time to time dureing the same time shalbe due and payable to the Lord or Lords of the Fee or Fees of sch parte or the premisses as I have any inheritance in & payeing the Rent & performeing the Counnts in the Lesses parte to be performed & don ANd the sayd Francis Sanders bringeing vpp my said sonne in leareinge and alloweing and fyndeing vnot him dureing the sayd time meate Drincke and apparell fitt for one of his callinge ANd my will is that my Cossen Sanders shalbe allowe out tof these profitts and Rents of my said messuages lands and Tenements wch monyes as hee shall haue disboursed dureing the minority of my said Sonne in his educacon and bringing vpp. The residue & overplus arising of the Rentes yssues and profittes of my said messuages lands tenements and hereditaments wherein I haue any estate of inheritance or for yeres I will and devise shalbe and remane to my sayd sonne Jefferey Sandwell to be accompted for him at his age of One and Twenty yeres uf he liue soe longe and yf he dye before his said agoe of One and Twentie and leave any Child or Children of his body lawfullie begotten then my mind is That the said Francis Sanders shall make the like accompte thereof to the sayd Child or Children or to such person as shall have goverment of him her or them, at such time as

1616 The will of Jeffery Sandwell was proved on December 10 in the Consistory Court of Canterbury with administration granted to Francis Sanders gentleman.
