Notes for Jonas Wolff and Anna Catherina Backer

We are researching the family of Jacob Wolf (1694-1757) [1], married to Barbara Orth. We suspect that the family of Jonas Wolf (1692?-1754) might be related [perhaps Jacob and Jonas were brothers].

Research Notes:

1692 Some researchers have reported the birth or baptism of Jonas Wolff on January 20, 1692 at Ronnenberg, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. There is no such place. Ronnenberg is close to Hanover, Germany. Rheinland-Pfalz is west of Frankfurt, Germany. We seek evidence about the birth of Jonas Wolff, spouse of Anna Becker.

before 1712 Anna Catherina Backer was likely born before 1712, based on her marriage in 1730. We seek evidence about the birth of Anna Becker, spouse of Jonas Wolff.

1730 Jonas Wolff and Anna Catherina Backer were married on March 26, 1738 in Pennsylvania by Johan Caspar Stover. Lutheran Church in Lancaster city. [2] [3]

1739 Johann Jonas Wolf was reportedly born on April 12 or December 27 in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, reportedly a son of Johann Jonas Wolf and Anna Catherina Backer [undocumented]. [4] Other researchers suggest that Jonas (1739), spouse of Appolonia Dick, was a son of John Jacob Wolf and Anna Barbara Orth. We seek further documentation about the parents of Jonas Wolf, spouse of Appolonia Dick. Lacking any evidence, we show Jonas Wolf as a son of Jacob Wolf and Barbara Orth.

1742 John Jacob Wolf, son of Jonas Wolf, was born on January 4, 1742. He was baptized on April 15, 1742 at a church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. John Jacob Kaemmerling and wife were sponsors. [5] [6]

1743 John Herman Wolf, son of Jonas Wolf, was born 5 August 1743 and was baptized 28 August 1743 at a church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Herman Trott and wife were sponsors. [7] [8]

1745 Anna Maria Wolf, daughter of Jonas Wolf, was born on January 7, 1745. She was baptized on January 19, 1745 at a church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Herman Trott and wife were sponsors. [9] [10]

1746 Simon Wolf, son of Jonas Wolf, was born on October 28, 1746. He was baptized on December 7, 1746 at a church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. George Wagner and wife Anna Elizabetha were sponsors. [11] [12]

1754 On 5 August, John Adam Binner and Christian Brentzer asserted that they had witnessed the will of Jonas Wolfe, which was written in German. Daniel Shuey was the executor. [13] The will of Jonas Wolf, of Bethel Twp, Lancaster County was dated May 6, 1754 with probate on August 5, 1754. The will named wife Anne Wolf, but the names and number of children were omitted. Executor: Daniel Shuey. [14]

c 1755 Jonas Wolf died and left a will in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Tobias Pickle and Jacob Kemmerling were appointed guardians for Anna Marie, Eva Elizabeth, Anna Margaret, and Catharina Wolf, orphan and minor children of Jonas Wolf. Daniel Shuey, executor of the last will and testament of Jonas Wolf produced an account on March 4, 1755, and there appears a balance to be distributed to the Widow and the four children: Anna Maria, Eva Elizabeth, Anna Margaret, and Catharine Wolf.
