Notes for Andrew Hershey and Maria Acker

Research Notes:

Andrew Hershey, died 1806, has been named as the son of Andrew Hershey and Maria Schnebeli by several researchers. However, he was not named in the 1754 will of Andrew Hershey and the tax records below suggest that there was another older Andrew Hershey living in Hempfield Twp after Andrew died in 1754.

Andrew may have been taxed as early as 1751, or perhaps when he became of age in 1757:

1751 There were two listings for And'w Hershaw, perhaps father and son or perhaps two older men, on the tax list in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County. [1]

1756 Andrew Hershey was taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County for 350 acres, 20 acres grain, 4 horses, 2 mares, 6 cows, and 12 sheep. Widowed Hershey was also taxed. [2]

1757 Andrew Hershy and Andrew Hershy jun'r and Widdow Hershy and Joseph Hershy (freeman) were taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County. [3]

1758 Andrew Hershy (300 acres) and Andrew Hershy jun'r (200 acres) and Widdow Hershy (500 acres) and Joseph Hershy (30 acres) were taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County. [4]

1771 Andrew Hershey and Andrew Hershey Jr were taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [5]

1772 Andrew Hershee and Andrew Hershee Jr were taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [6]

1773 Andrew Hershey Sr and Andrew Hershey Jr were taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [7]

1779 Andrew Harsha Sr and Andrew Harsha Jr were taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [8]

1782 Andrew Hershey was taxed in Hempfield Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [9]

1806 The will, written in German, of Andrew Hershey, late of Donegal Twp, Lancaster County, was affirmed on August 26, by witnesses Christian Newcommet and Christian Hershey. Letters of administration were issued to Maria Hershey, Jacob Hershey, and Andrew Gerber, executors. [10]

Maria Acker has been named as the spouse of this Andrew Hershey by several researchers.

Jacob, married to Barbara Hiestand has been named as a son of this couple by several researchers.

The will of widow Barbara Hershey, perhaps the widow of son Jacob, names several of her children. [11]
