1790 Susanna Mellinger, perhaps a daughter in this family, lived in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania [48] [49]. John Brenizer was listed in the right column, line 13 from bottom, on the same page, perhaps John Brenizer, father-in-law of Susanna Mellinger's daughter, Magdalena. [50]

Notes from rootsweb: Scott (Mellinger) suggests that Susannah Mohler married John Jacob Mellinger and they had 4 daughters: Magdalena, Susannah, Elizabeth and Anna. After John Jacob Mellinger's death in 1777, she married Johannes Bordner (Porter). Susannah Mohler Mellinger Bordner then died, death date and burial place unknown. Sometime later Johannes Bordner married his wife's daughter, Susannah Mellinger. Johannes and second wife are buried together. Scott suggests that the second Susannah Bordner raised her mother's children as well as several of her own. [76]

Jacob Mellinger, blacksmith, resided in Cocalico Twp with widow Susanna and children: Magdelena Mellinger with guardian Daniel Bowman; Elizabeth Mellinger, Susanna Mellinger, and Anna Mellinger with guardian Jacob Keller. Listed marriages of Magdelena to John Breneisen (or Brenneman) abt 1784 and Susanna Mellinger to John Porter abt 1784. Mentioned 25 Acres of land in Cocalico Twp. Administration given to Susannah Mellinger and Jacob Mohler [77][Lancaster County Pennsylvania Intestate Record Bond Bk 3-56 of Jacob Mellinger]

1784-85 Daughter Susanna was named as a spouse of John Porter (Bortner ?) and as the mother of Eva Elisabetha Bortner in 1784. However, note that daughter Susanna is named as Mellinger in two court records in 1785. Who was Susanna Mellinger in the 1790 census?

Rev. Waldschmidt's marriage records report that Susanna was remarried to Johannes Bordner on 5/16/1780 and the couple continued residing on the old Mellinger homestead. The date of marriage for Susanna Mullinger, widow of Jacob, and Johannes Border, son of Johannes Border deceased has been reported as 16 May, 1770 [78]. Bordner, like Jacob (H1), took up the blacksmithing profession as well. Even though remarried, "Widow Mellinger" continued to appear in the tax lists until 1783 when her name disappeared and that of 'John Borter' [sic] appeared for only that year. On 12/6/1785 the courts approved the sale of the Mellinger property to Jacob and Susannah's eldest daughter, Magdalena (H11), and her husband John Breneisen, but no deeds substantiate that the sale took place [it's possible the sale took place and that John Breneisen turned around and sold it to Jacob Landes but there is no proof, so there is no evidence as to how Jacob Landes came into possession of the Mellinger Homstead other then a reference in an early Lancaster History that states it came from the Mellingers]. Sometime after 12/6/1785 Jacob Landes takes ownership of the property but no record of any transaction has ever been found.

1776 John Jacob Mellinger served in Regiment 3, Pennsylvania. [79]
