1820 Joseph Eichelberger, son of Adam and Margretta EWichelberger, was born on February 21 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was baptized on May 7 at the St Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church. [1] [2] [3]

1825 Caroline Brenizer was born on May 12. [4]

1843 Joseph Eichelberger and Caroline Brenizer were married. A coverlet dated 1843 with Caroline's name has been passed down to descendants. [Photo, Caroline Brenizer coverlet.] [Photo, Letter about the coverlet.]

1844 Wilmina Olleny, daughter of Joseph and Caroline Eichelberger, was born on October 4. She was baptized on December 17, 1844 with sponsor Adam Eichelberger at the Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Cumberland County. [5]

1846 William Henry Eichelberger, son of Joseph Eichelberger, was born on February 15. He was baptized on July 12, 1846 at Trindle Spring Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [6]

1850 Joseph Eichelberger (age 30, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Silver Spring Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Carline Eichelberger (age 26), William H Eichelberger (age 4), Mary M Eichelberger (age 3), and Joseph E Eichelberger (age 2). [7] [8] [9]

1860 Caroline Eichelberger (age 36, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Silver Spring Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Joseph Eichelberger (age 40), Mary M Eichelberger (age 13), Joseph E Eichelberger (age 11), Washington L Eichelberger (age 8), Jane A Eichelberger (age 7), James B Eichelberger (age 6), Lorria V Eichelberger (age 4), and Thomas J Brunner (age 18). Joseph Eichelberger was a member of the G.A.R. (Union Army) of Jobes Post, No. 157, Department of Ohio 1881-1913 [Darke County]. [12]

1869 Joseph Eichelberger and Caroline moved from Pennsylvania to Union City, Ohio on June 27, as reported in the 1896 obituary and newspaper story of son James B Eichelberger.

1870 Caroline Eichelberger (age 44, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Ohio Twp, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Joseph Eichelberger (age 50), Washington Eichelberger (age 21), Jane A Eichelberger (age 18), James B Eichelberger (age 16), Laura V Eichelberger (age 13), and Cora Eichelberger (age 1). [13] [14] All were born in Pennsylvania, which suggests that the family did not move to Ohio until 1869.

1880 Joseph Eichelberger (age 60) and Caroline Eichelberger (age 55) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio. Daughter Cora A (age 11) lived with them. Also in the household were grandchildren Josiah F Grill (age 11), and Joseph H Grill (age 13). Next door was son James B Eichelberger. Caroline Eichelberger's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. 1880 An agricultural census listed Joseph Eichelberger with 65 acres of tilled land in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio. [18]

1888 Land of Joseph Eichelberger was shown on a map in section 15, Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio. [19]

1890 Joseph L. Eichelberger was named on a census of Civil War veterans in Darke County, Ohio. [20]

c 1890 A biosketch reported [21]:

Joseph Eichleberger, farmer and Justice of the Peace, Sec. 15; P.O. Union City. The subject of this memoir was born in Cumberland Co, Penn, Feb 22, 1820; at 13 years of age, he engaged as clerk in the hardware trade at Harrisburg, which position he filled until he attained his majority; he then followed farming in Pennsylvania until 1869, at which date he emigrated to Ohio, and located upon section 15, Jackson Township, where he now lives; he owns 160 acres of land with good farm buildings, which he has accumulated by his own hard labor and correct business habits. Of township and school offices, he has had his full share, having held the office of Township Trustee two years, School Director nine years and Justice of the Peace three years, which office he now holds. His marriage with Caroline Brenizer was celebrated in Cumberland Co, Penn., upon the 12th of November 1843; she was born in the above county; they were the parents of nine children, of whom seven are now living, viz., Mary M., Joseph E., Washington L., Jane A., James B., and Cora A.

1895-96 Caroline Brenizer and Joseph Eichelberger were buried at Teegarden Congregational Christian Church Cemetery, Ansonia, Darke County, Ohio. [22] [23] [24] [Photo, 1895 Eichelberger grave marker.]

1896 Joseph Eichelberger's obituary reported: "Eichelbarger [sic], Joseph, died very suddenly and unecepted [sic]. Born in Cumberland Co, P; 2-22-1820, came to Darke County, Ohio, in 1869, locating a few miles east of this City. Married Caroline Brenizer 12-12-1843, born to them 9 children, 2 children and wife deceased. Served as J.P. for several years. A member of the Evangelical Church until 14 years ago and then united with the Christian Church at Teagarden, funeral services were held there Jan. 27, and burial in the Teagarden cemetery. Leaves 3 sons, 4 daughters, 28 gr. Children, and 4 gr. gr. children." [25]

1896 Another obituary for Joseph Eichelberger: "Joseph Eichelberger died at his late home near Union City, Ind, Jan 23, 1896, aged 78 years 11 months and 1 day; Heart disease was doubtless the cause of death; he was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Feb 22, 1820; he married Caroline Brenizer Dec 12, 1843, 9 children were born to them; 2 of whom together with his wife prededed him; In 1869 he emigrated to Darke Co, O locating a few miles east of Union City; Interred in the Teegarden cemetery; He leaves 3 sons, 4 daughters, 28 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren to mourn;" [26]

1927 Jennie A Bortner, married, spouse of Amon Bortner, died on April 20, at age 75, in Jackson Twp, Randolph County, Indiana. She was born on February 3, 1852, in PA, daughter of Joseph Eichelbarger and Caroline Eichelbarger. [31] [32] [33]
