Robert Revell, son of John Revell and Margery Eyre, married Alenor, daughter of Aucher Frechville of Stavely. [1] [2]

Robert Revell of Ogston married Eleanor, daughter of Ancher Frecheville, of Staveley. [3] [4] Robert Revell of Higham married Elianor, daughter of Ankerus Frecheville. [5]

1525 "Peter Frescheville, (bastard son of Peter Frescheville, then late of Staveley, deceased) sells all his lands in Duckmanton to Robert Revell, 17 Henry VIII" [6]

1518-1529 "Robert Revell and Eleanor, his wife, James Oxley and Elizabeth, his wife, and Elizabeth Bawkewell, daughter of Katherine Frechevile. v. Randall Rye of Whitwell, esquire.: Detention of deeds relating to messuages and land in Newark late of Ankar Frechevile, gentleman, deceased, father of the said Eleanor, Elizabeth Oxley, and Katherine. (Interpleader annexed of John Leeke, gentleman.): Nottingham. Covering dates: 1518-1529." [7]

1518-1529 "Robert, son of John Revell. v. Antony Babyngton of Dethick, esquire.: Detention of deeds relating to messuages and land in Ogstone [in Morton], Wheatcroft, and Holmehill, entrusted to defendant to hold pending a payment agreed to be made by complainant to Richard Revell.: zDerby." [8] This might refer to Anthony Babington, son of Thomas Babington. [9]

1529 The will of Rowland Revell of Mansfield named Robarte Revell, now of Augston, son of John. [10]

1529-32 "Robert Revell. v. Tristram Revell and Edward Eyre.: Expulsion from a messuage and land in ... and land in Chesterfield, some time of Thomas Revell and late of John Revell, his grandson.: Derby." [11]

1532 Release and quitclaim by Robert Revell of Ogston, gentleman, and John Revell, his son and heir, to Tristram Revell of Carnthwaite, gentleman, of all right etc. in all those lands and tenements in Chesterfield, Newbold, Brimington, Tapton and Whittington which were formerly Thomas Revell's. Dated February 6, 1531/32 [23 H VIII], [12]

1533-38 "Robert Revell of Ogston, co. Derby, gentleman. v. Richard Curson of Kedleston, great-grandson and heir of John Curson, esquire.: Detention of deeds relating to a messuage and land in North Wingfield.: Derby." [13]

1538-1544 "Thomas, son and heir of Richard Revell, v. Robert, son of John Revell: Detention of deeds relating to messuages and land in Ogstone (in Morton), Holmehill (in North Wingfield), Wheatcroft (in Crich) and Brackenfield in Morton (Brakyngthwatt).: Derby." [14]

1541 "Westminster. Quindene of Easter 1541. P: Robert Revell. D: Thomas Revell. Concerning the meadow of Ogeston and 6 mess; 1 cottage, 300a land, 40a meadow, 100a pasture, 100a woodland and 200a moorland in Ogeston, Holmegate, Wheytcroft and Brakyntwhat. Robert had these of the gift of Thomas who remised and quitclaimed of, and warranted for, himself and his heirs to Robert and his heirs. Robert gave £300." [15]

1546 Robert Revell of Shorlonglegge [Shirland], Derbyshire, was granted a crest for his coat of arms. [16]

1548 "A messuage in Stretton: Feoffment by John Lytelton and Thomas Asteley to Robert Revell and William Hande of lands ... to hold to the use of Asteley." Dated November 4. [17]

1554 "Whereas Robert Revell late of Higham, co Derby, gentleman, is indicted before James Dier, knight, and Ralph Rokeby, serjeants at law, justices of gaol [jail] delivery for Derbyshire, for that he with others on 16 December, 1 Mary, feloniously and burglariously broke into the mansion house of Stephen Hill at Prathall in Wirkesworth, co. Derby, about 11 o'clock at night and there putting Stephen and his wife in corporal fear stole 18l. in money and 40 pieces of linen cloth to the value of 4 marks; Pardon to Robert of the said felony and of all other felonies perpetrated by him to the present and release to him of all penalties incurred by reason of the same, so that he stand right, etc." Dated May 11. [18] Robert Revell of Hiegham [Higham], co Derby appeared on the Pardon Rolls of Philip and Mary. [19]

1555 The will of Robert Revel was dated April 19, 1555 with probate date 26 May, 1555 [20] [21] [22]:

In the name of god Amen. Thy xixth daye of Aprill in the yere of o'ur Lord god A
thousand fyve hundreth fiftie and fyve, I Robert Reyvell of Sherland Lodge in the Countie of Derbie esquire
hole in mynde and perfyct of remembraunce do make my testament and last will in maner and forme folowing -
First I bequeathe my soule unto Almightie god the verie maker and onelie reedemer therof ? and my body to be
Buried in the quier of sainte Katheryn in the p'arish church of Shirland aforesaid and for the charges and expenses of
my funeralls I [w]hollie refere? unto the discrecion of myne executors praying them that yt may be done convenintlye and according unto my degree. Item I will and bequeath unto Ellen my welbeloved weif all my landes and tenements
in Oxston Thewathwicke and Bubnell / and two mesuages with th'appurtances in Higham in the holding of Roger
Alsybrucke and John Howbye, to have to her for terme of her lief in full recompense and satisfaction of all such joynt'ure
and dower as she might clame of and in all my landes and trusts by the lawe of the realme or by reason of any other
covenante or grante heretofore made to the said Ellyn or to any other p'ersone or p'ersones to her use/. Item I give unto my
said wife fourtie pounds in money and one goblet without any cover / xij keyne and a bull / viij oxen, a hundret sheepe
of every sorte some, three filies / a nutt / a salt withoute a cover and vj silver spoons / and the bed that she lieth
in /. Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest sonne John Reyvell my boolle blocked readie to the burninge / and
fortie loads of oer my best goblet or cupp with a cover / the best salt w'th a cover / sixe silver spounes to occupn? the
said goblet or cuppe with the cover / the salt and spoons / during hys life / And after his decese they to remain
unto his heire male/. Item I give unto my said sonne John Revell sixe bullocks, syx heyfers and one fillie of iiij or
yeare old / and also my signet of golde/. Item I give unto Robert Reyvell my sonne fourtie marks in money / and to
his sonne Robert Reyvell fyve marks and to Benet Reyvell and Ellyn hys daughters either of them iij£ vjs viijd
and to Marrye Reyvell and Ann his daughters either of them fyve marks. Item I devyse and bequeath unto
Leonarde Reyvell my son and to his heires forever all such lands and tenements as I have in morgage
in Byrchwoode within the parish of Alferton of Christo'pher ffitzrandall, paying therefor the rest of the money
yeat unpaide / and yf the saide lands be redemyd / then I will that the said Leonarde shall have all such
money as shallbe due to be paide for the redemp'con/. Item I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Leonarde
Reyvell my farme of Shirland parke the Geyrholmes / Long Ryddynges, the Delves, ffulwoode Folde / Allurland
Kyttynroose / Chapellclif w'th the litle Half Fold and Mynsull, the one half of my ffarme of Stretton Lordship
during my years. The Conyngree lying in Shirlande demesne, the one half of he Lyndweye Wood. The rest
of my farms of Sherlande and Stretton I give and bequeath unto my eldest son John Reyvell. Item I give
unto the said Leonarde Reyvell and John Reyvell my eldest son my smithes. Item I give unto my son Marcell
Reyvell one tenement with appurtenances in Brampton now or lately in the tenure of the wife of William Newham
Item one close in Boythorpe in the tenure of James Fuliann knight with all other my lands and tenements in the
Hill in the occupancy of James Clarke and John Cleye, to have and to hold all the aforesaid lands and tenements with
their appurtenances in Brampton Boythorp and Hill unto the aforesaid Marcyll and to th'e heyres males of his bodye
lawfully begotten. And for default of such yssue, the revercion to the heirs male of me the said Robert Reyvell.
Item I give and bequeath unto the said son Marcyll £40 in money. Item I give and bequeath
unto my youngest son John Reyvell all my lands and tenements with their appurtenances in Normanton within the parish of Chesterfield now or late in the occupacion of Henry Baldwyn, John Alwoode, Richard Alwoode and Willyam Alwoode, and of every of them to have and to hold all the said land and tenements with their appurtenances in Normanton aforesaid unto the said John Reyvell and the'heirs male of his body lawfully begotten and for default of such yssue the revercion thereof to remain unto the heirs male of me the said Robert Reyvell. Item I give unto the said John Reyvell £40 in money. Item I give unto my daughter Margerye Reyvell three score pounds in money and 6 heyffers.
Item I will that Elenor Hopkinson my daughter shall have £10 in money and 6 heifers according unto my covenant made with her late husbande Nicholas Hopkinson. Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Anne Reyvell and Grace Reyvell to either of them four score pouonds to their marriages, to be paid unto them at the days of their marriages or els when they shall come unto the'age of xviij'ti years. And if it fortune either of the said daughters to decease before she shall be married or before she shall come to the age of xviii years, then I will that the said four score pounds unto her bequeathed and geven shall goe and be bestowed unto the performance of my last will.
Item I will that Ellyn Reyvell my weif shall have delivered to her three score pounds of the said Anne Reyvell and the Grace Reyvell, finding sufficient sureties both to find and keep Anne Reyvell and Grace Reyvell until they be ether maried or else come to the age of xxi years, and then to repay the three score pounds and finding sufficient sureties to repay the said three score pounds unto th'executors according to the meaning ot this my present will. If it so chance that they depart and die unmarried and before the age of xviij yeres, and if either of them marry before th'age of xviij years then I will my said wife shall pay the said three score pounds

this my will and testament / Then I will and my full mynde ys that all and every suche shall have no parte nor
portion of any of my goods and c[h]attels but shall be utterlie void and ?? of all and every thing
kind things whatsoever? theybe although it were heretofore by this my will given and appointed unto them -
any thing heretofore expressed to the contrary ? in anywise not ? standing /. This I will and bequeath
unto George Holme my servante a house in Brampton nowe? or Late in the holding of the wife? of Willyam -
Newham deceased and all the lands [&c.]?? th'appurtenances to the same house
appertaining, to have and to hold the said house and all the pr? pr? unto the said George during his life?,
yelding and paying to my son Marcyll Reyvell and to the heirs male of his body lawfully begotten. The
yearly due? and accustomed rent thereof, and the said George to make reparacons thereof during his ? life.
Item I give and bequeath unto the said George Holme four bullocks of the second sort. Item I give and bequeath
unto my trusty lover and cosyn Adam Eyre of Alferton, to be one of my executors of this my last will and
testament a gold Ringe and a baye mare, and his son a colt/. Item I give and bequeath unto Rowland Eyre
my sonne-in—lawe a doublet of velvet, four steers, four keyine and one bull, a mare with a foal. Item I bequeath
and give unto Christofer Haslam priest for his good and true service £4. I give and ? my sd
unto Henry Hall my servant for his painful service about me the farm that the wife of Willyam Sedall
now dwells in, to have and to hold the said farmehouse all and singular the appurtenances unto the said Henry
Hall and his assigns for the term of xviii years next following the date hereof, paying yielding and therefor
yearly the rent thereof due and accustomed and for the income of the said farme nothing at all. Item I give
unto the said Henry Hall two kyne. Item I give unto each of my household servants a quarter's wages more
than their duty at my death. Item I give unto the poor men's boxe for the relief of the poor within this
parish dwelling the houses that they now dwell in for the term of their lives and £3 to in money
to be paid within 3 years yearly after my departing to the said poor folks by my executors. Item I
give and bequeath unto Grace Chepingdale my daughter one cow, four filys of iii years olde and vj silver
spoons. Item unto Margerie Meynell 2 heifers. To Margerie Cotton a cow with a calf. To John
Breylsford a filly. And to John Oldamm a filly. Item to Richard Wright two heifers. All my other goods and
chattels not given nor bequeathed by this my last will and testament after my will performed, my debts paid &
the charges of my funerall satisfied, I freely give and bequeath unto Leonarde Reyvell, Rowland Eyer,
Adam Eyre and Thomas Chepingdale, whom upon especial trust and confidence do constitute ordeyn and
make my ? and lawful executors of this my last will and testament / my ? trust not but they will see
my will performyd in all poyntes / and the rest bestowed for my soul's health. And they to pay unto the right
honorable Fraunces Earl of Shrewesburie £6 13s. 4d., requiring his lordship according my ?
trust and confidence to be supervisour of this my last will and testament. In witness hereof I have subscribed

Soul to almighty God the very maker and only redeemer thereof. Body to be buried in the choir of Saint Katheryn in the parish church of Shirlande. For the expenses of my funeral I refer to the discretion of my executors, praying them that it may be done conveniently and according to my degree.

To Ellen my well-beloved wife all my lands and tenements in Oxston [Ogston], Thewathewicke and Bubnell, and 2 messuages in Higham in the holding of Roger Alsybrucke and John Howbye, for her life in full satisfaction of all such jointure and dower as she might claim of all my lands by the law of the realm or by reason of any other covenant or grant heretofore made to the said Ellyn or to any other person to her use. To my wife £40 and one goblet without any cover, 12 kine and a bull, 8 oxen, 100 sheep of every sort some, 3 tillies, a nut, a salt without a cover and 6 silver spoons and the bed that she lies in.

To my eldest son John Reyvell my bole blocked ready to the burning and 40 loads of ore, my best goblet or cup with a cover, the beet salt with a cover, 6 silver spoons, to occupy the goblet or cup with 1 ww. the salt and spoons during his life. And after his decease they to remain to his heir male.

To my son John Reyvell 6 bullocks, 6 heifers, andone filly of 4 years old and also my signet of gold.

To Robert Reyvell my son 40 marks, and to his son Robert Reyvell 5 marks.

And to Benet Reyvell and Ellyn his daughters each £3 6s. 8d.

And to Mary Reyvell and Anne his daughters each 5 marks.

To Leonerde Reyvell my son and his heirs for ever all such lands and tenements as I have in mortgage in Byrchwoode within the parish of Alferton of Christofer Fitzrandall, paying therefor the rest of the money yet unpaid. And if the said lands be redeemed, the said Leonarde shall have all such money as shall be due for the redemption. To my son Leonarde Reyvell my farm of Sherland Park, the Geyrholmes, Long Ryddynges, the Delves, Fulwoode Field, Allurland Kyttynroose, Chappellclif with the Little Half Field and ?Mynshull, the one half of my farm of Stretton lordship during my years, the Conyngree lying in Shirlande demesne, the one half of the Lyndweye Wood.

The rest of my farms of Sherlande and Stretton to my eldest son John Reyvell.

To Leonarde Reyvell and John Reyvell my eldest son my smithies.

And if either of the said daughters decease before they be married or come to the age of 18 years, the £80 shall go to the performance of my last will.

Ellyn Reyvell my wife shall have delivered to her £60 of Anne Reyvell and Grace Reyvell, finding sufficient sureties to both find and keep Anne Reyvell and Grace Reyvell until they be married or come to the age of 2l years, and then to repay the £60 to the executors of this my will. If they depart and die unmarried and before the age of 18, my wife shall pay the £60 to such of my daughters as shall first be married Provided that if my wife or any of my said children, sons, or daughters shall hereafter claim anything otherwise than is appointed to them by this my last will or in any wise trouble my executors for anything contrary to this my will, every such shall have no part of any of my goods and chattels but shall be utterly void of everything although it were heretofore by this my will given to them.

To George Holme my servant a house in Brampton now or late in the holding of the wife of Willyam Newham deceased and all the lands [&c.] to the same house appertaining, to hold to the said George during his life, paying to my son Marcyll Reyvell and the heirs male of his body the yearly accustomed rent thereof, and the said George to make reparations thereof during his life. To George Holme 4 bullocks of the second sort.

To my trusty lover and cousin Adam Eyre of Alferton, to be one of my executors, a gold ring and a bay mare, and his son a colt. To Rowland Eyre my son-in—law a doublet of velvet, 4 steers, 4 kine and one bull, a mare with a foal.

To Christofer Haslam priest for his good and true service £4. To Henry Hall my servant for his painful service about me the farm that the wife of Willyam Sedall now dwells in, to hold to Henry Hall and his assigns for 18 years next following the date hereof, paying therefor yearly the rent thereof accustomed and for the income of the said farm nothing at all. All my other goods and chattels, after my will performed, my debts paid and the charges of my funeral satisfied, freely to Leonarde Reyvell, Rowland Eyer, Adam Eyre and Thomas Chepingdale, whom I make my executors, and the rest bestowed for my soul's health. And they to pay to the right honorable Fraunces Earl of Shrewesburie £6 13s. 4d., requiring his lordship to be supervisor.
