Research Notes:

1751 A "Jonathan Son of William Marshall carter Flagon Road" was baptized on September 24 at St Nicholas, Deptford, Kent, England. [16] Jonathan Marshall's age at death, recorded in his burial record, suggests a birth year of about 1744, which would suggest he was about age 23 when he started his apprenticeship and about age 26 when he married widow Ann Burgess.

Widow Ann Burgess may have been the Ann in the following records:

1766 "James Burgess Batchelor of the Parish of St Leonard Shoreditch and Ann Marriott Spinster of Trinity Parish were Married in the Parish Church of Saint Michael Queen Hithe by Banns this Eighteenth Day of January in the year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six. By me. Richard Mason. This Marriage was Solomnized between us: James Burgess, Ann Marriot. In the presence of us: Wm Wright, Sarah Wright, Richard Reily clerk, Elizabeth Burgess, Jas Wright." [17] Their Banns were recorded in the weeks before the marriage. [18]

1767 "James S of James & Ann Burgess of Daggetts Court Born February ye 20th Baptized ye 19th" of March at St Leonard Storeditch. [19]

Widow Ann Burgess apparently was not the following Ann, wife of Samuel Burgess of St Leanord Shoreditch, as Samuel and Ann had children born in 1771 and 1774:

1765 On 3 February, Samuel Burgess and Ann Avery were married at St Leonard, Shoreditch, Middlesex, England. [20] [21]
