1728 Jan Burcko[l]ter signed the oath of allegiance to King George of England to be naturalized in Pennsylvania, which allowed him to hold land as a citizen. He was on the list of Mennonites. [1]

"Hans Burkhalter, born c1706, Friedelsheim, Germany. died after 1760, Conestoga Township, Lancaster County. He died without leaving a will and there is no mention of him in deed records after 1760. He went to Pennsylvania with his father in 1717. He died at Conestoga Township, Lancaster County. He was married to Anna Herr (20 Dec 1711-bef1756), the daughter of Hans Herr (1681-1756). His father granted him 200 acres in May 1733 in Strasburg Township and he sold 100 acres of it on 12 Apr 1759 to John Kendig. He and Stephen Brenniman gave land to the trustees of the Mennonite congregation of Conestoga on 1 Jul 1755.25 It was land patented to Melchior Brenniman and later sold to John Burkhalter, who with his wife Catherine sold it to their son John Burkhalter. He was taxed at Conestoga Township in 1751 to 1759. He was taxed on 200 acres in 1756." [3]
