Notes for Samuel French and Sarah Heulings

1748 On 17 September, Samuel French was born in Waterford Twp, Gloucester County, New Jersey. [1]

1769 On 7 of month 4, Samuel French and Sarah Heulings, daughter of Jacob and Agnes Buckman Heulings, were married. [2]

1775 On 23 of month 11, Hugh Hollingshead and Eleanor French, daughter of Charles French of Waterford Twp, were married at the Great Egg Harbor monthly meeting. Witnessed by Samuel and Sarah French, and many others. [3] [4]

1799 Samuel French, perhaps this one, inventoried the will of Joseph Gibson in Gloucester County, New Jersey. [5]

1800 Joseph Gibson, ward of Joseph, deceased, chose Samuel French as guardian. [6]

1814 On 8 of month 7, Samuel French died. [7]

A biosketch [8] reports:

"Samuel French, second son of Charles (2) and Ann (Clement) French, was born in Waterford township, Gloucester county, New Jersey, September 17, 1748, died July 8, 1814. He became a large landowner, prosperous farmer, and public man, serving in the New Jersey Legislature from Gloucester county in 1795-96-97, 1800-01-02. He was devoted in his allegiance to the Society of Friends, and throughout a manhood of half a century manifested the qualities of his conscientious, vigorous, industrious, and honorable ancestry. He married Sarah, daughter of Jacob (2) and Agnes (Buckman) Heulings, of Evesham township, Burlington county, New Jersey. She was a great-granddaughter of William Buckman, who came to Pennsylvania in 1682 with William Penn in the "Welcome," also a great-granddaughter of William Heulings, a justice of the peace for Burlington county in 1703.
