John Stokes, son of John and Hannah Stokes, was born in Haycock Twp, Bucks County, Pennylvania. [1] [2]

John Stokes married Susan Newton. [3] [4]

1769 The Stokes tract, laid out for 350 acres and allowances, was found to contain 347 acres and 42 perches, by the survey of Asher Woolman and Samuel Foulke, dated April 12. "It lay at Applebachville, and comprised the fine farms of the late General Paul Applebach. The old family mansion, more than a century old, is still standing." [5] The Stokes House is still [2013] standing on a Park in Bucks County.

1800 John Stokes (age 45+) lived in Haycock Twp, Bucks County, Pennsylvania in a household with wife, three younger males, and three younger females. William Stokes (age 26-45) and family lived in the same township. [21]

1811-1813 John Stokes Sr and John Stokes Jr were taxed in Haycock County, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. [22]

1809 The will of John Stokes, of Haycock Twp, Bucks County, yeoman, was dated March 30, 1809. Sons John and Stogdell inherited the plantation. Sons William, John, Samuel and Stogdell exrs. Wife Susanna. Grandson Peter Lester minor son of daughter Mary, deceased. Daus. Hannah Praul, Rachel Smith, Elizabeth Roberts and Susanna Stokes. If William dies without legal issue, then his part is to be divided among the others. Codicil dated June 4, 1811 increased payments to the daughters. Witnesses: John Smith, James Chapman. Letters of administration were issued to all four sons at probate on August 14, 1813. [23]
