Notes for Thomas Barlow and Rose Sherwood

Rose Sherwood's first husband was Thomas Rumble of Stratford who had a daughter Bethia who married Robert Steward by 1679. [1]

1650/51 Phebe Barlow, daughter of Thomas and Rose (Sherwood) Barlow was born on February 27 in Fairfield, Connecticut. [2]

1658 Thomas Barlow wrote his will on September 8. He named his wife Rose and his three daughters Phebe, Deborah, and Mary, who were to receive portiions at age 16 years. He named his friend Mr. Thomas Pell as overseer, and the witnesses were Andrew Ward and John Banks. [3]

1673 Phebe Barlow, daughter of Thomas Barlow, of Fairfield, and James Olmstead, son of Capt. Richard Olmstead, were married on May 1 in Norwalk Connecticut. [4] "In 1673 Phebe Barlow alias Olmsted receipted to Edward Nash and her mother; witnesses, Wm. Hamilton, Deborah and Mary Barlow." [5]

1684 Deborah Barlow and John Burritt were married on May 1 in Stratford, Connecticut. [6] [7]

1684 Mary Barlow (recorded as Barley), daughter of Thomas Barlow, of Fairfield, and John Nash were married on May 1 in Norwalk, Connecticut. [8] [9]

Donald Lines Jacobus states, [10]

Thomas Barlow "was prob. first at Windsor, being sued 1649 by Richard Samwis of that town. Settled in Fairfield, where he owned land at least as early as 1650. He bought a homelot from Thomas Sherwood, which Sherwod acknowledged 19 May 1684.
Married Rose (Sherwood) Rumble, dau. of Thomas Sherwood, 1st, and widow of Thomas Rumble of Stratford. She m. (3) Edward Nash.
Will 8 Sept. 1658; wife Rose; three daus. Phebe, Deborah, Mary, to receive portions at 16 yrs.; overseer, friend Mr. Thomas Pell; witnesses Andrew Ward, John Banks, Inv. £465. In 1673 Phebe Barlow alias Olmstead receipted to Edward Nash and her mother; witnesses, Wm. Hamilton, Deborah and Mary Barlow. In 1679 Robert Steward of Norwalk and his wife Bethia, dau. of Thomas Rumble (who died before 4 Mar. 1653), whose widow Rose m. (2) Thomas Barlow and is now wife of Ed: Nash, etc.
James Olmstead of Norwalk and John Burritt of Stratford sold land in Farifield, 9 Mar. 1691/2 to John Bulkley which was laid out to the children of Thomas Barlow; and the same grantors sold to Francis Bradley, 16 Mar. 1692/3. Joseph Burritt of Stratford, yeoman, with Mary his wife, 13 May 1714, released all right of reversion in a lot know as Barlow's lot, which father Mr. John Burrit sold to Rev. Joseph Webb of Fairfield."
