Date: Two weeks from St John the Baptist, 7 Henry VII [8 July 1492].
Parties: John, earl of Oxford, John Vauasour, Thomas Barnardeston', esquire, and Elizabeth, his wife, Robert Neweport, esquire, Thomas Underhill' and Nicholas Barnardeston', querents, and Thomas Pormerd', deforciant.
Property: The manor of Groses, 2 messuages, 12 tofts, 100 acres of land, 80 acres of meadow, 60 acres of pasture and 40 acres of marsh in Magna Cotes and Parua Cotes.
Action: Plea of covenant.
Agreement: Thomas Pormerd' has acknowledged the manor and tenements to be the right of Nicholas, as those which Nicholas, John, John, Thomas Barnardeston' and Elizabeth, Robert and Thomas Underhill' have of his gift, and has remised and quitclaimed them from himself and his heirs to John, John, Thomas Barnardeston' and Elizabeth, Robert, Thomas Underhill' and Nicholas and the heirs of Nicholas for ever.
Warranty: Warranty.
For this: John, John, Thomas Barnardeston' and Elizabeth, Robert, Thomas Underhill' and Nicholas have given him 60 pounds sterling.

1503 Thomas Barnardiston died on June 29. His inquisition post mortem states,

764. Thomas Barnardiston, knight.
Writ 7 July, 18 Henry VII ; inquisition the last day but one of November, 19 Henry VII.
He died 29 June, 18 Henry VII, seised of the under-mentioned manor in fee. Thomas Barnardyston, aged 23 and more, is his son and heir. Wilts.
Manor of Estgrafton, worth 201., held of Edward, duke of Bukkyngham, by fealty and 2s. rent, for all service. The jurors also say that he paid yearly to the said duke 2s. 6d.

1514 Elizabeth Barnardyston, widow, formerly the wife of John Barnardyton, knight, sued Henry Turnour, of Haverhyll, esquire, in the Court of Common Pleas in Suffolk concerning a debt. [4]

1526 Elizabeth Barnardiston wrote her will on September 6. [5] [6]

In dei nomine amen The yere of our Lorde god a Thousand fyve hundred twenty and six the vjth day of September I Dame Elizabeth Barnardyston widowe late the wif of Sir Thomas Barnardyston knight of hole mynde and of good memory make my testament and last will in this manner and forme folowing First I bequeath my soule to almighty god to our Lady saint mary and to the saints in hevyn. And my body to be buried in the Church of the priory of our Lady of Walsingham by the awter of saint Kateryn. Item I geve and bequeath to my prest Sir John Byrde for his wages xx s Item I bequeath to John Rooffe my seruunt xlvj s viij d the which he receyved of me forto bye fisshe Item I bequeath to my seruunt John Goodson xx s Item the fourty pounds remaynyng in the hands of my lord prior And the xxiiij li vj s viij d in the hands of my son Thomas Barnardyston Esquier the which money he doth owe unto me for ferme of my londes I geve and bequeth unto my Lord prior of Walsingham whom I make my executor of this my last will and whereas before my cumbeing to Walsingham I made a will cheffely for the performance of a chauntery in Keddyngton I will that that wille stande still in full strength to that effect oonly And ells I revoke that and all other made before so that that shall stand for the will of my landes. And this for the last will of my goodes witnessing this maister Robt Dussyng Doctour of divinitie sir John Byrde and sir Thomas Mundy prests.

1526 The will of Elizabeth Barnardiston was proved on September 25. "Probatum fuit testamentum suprascripti defuncti coram … xxvo die mensis Septembris Anno dni millimo quingentemo xxvjo ... Dni Rca Vowell prioris de Walsingham executoris ..." [7] [8]

Sir Thomas Barnardiston of Ketton, co. Suffolk, and of Great Coates, co. Lincoln, knight (son of Thomas Barnardiston of Ketton and of Great Coates, esquire, by Alice his 1st wife, dau. of Sir Henry Vavasour of Haselwood, co. York, and direct descendant of Geoffrey de Barnardiston, who received the manor of Ketton on his marriage temp. Edward I.); aged 40 and more 28 October 1480 when he was found heir to his step-mother Joan Barnardiston; knighted at the marriage of Prince Arthur 14 November 1501; died 29 June 1503, bur. at Great Coates. Memorial Brass. Will dated 1502, proved 11 August 1503 (P.C.C. 187 F. Records of the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury.) Inq. p. m. taken at Lincoln 1 December 1503 (C. Vol.17, no. 88)" married "Elizabeth Newport, dau. of George Newport of Brent Pelham, co. Hertford; executrix to her husband's will 11 August 1503; bur. at Ketton. Will dated 6 September 1526, proved 26 September 1526 (P.C.C. 10 Porch).
