Notes for Thomas Kemble and Hannah Chaffin

1666 "Thomas Kemble, goldsmith of Wentworth Street in the parish of Stepney (so called) in the County of Midd'x tooke Hannah Apline of Giles Cripplegate parish (so called) to be his wife and shee took him to be her husband on the 18th day of the 11th month 1666 in our publick meeting house in Westberry Street in the presence of these witnesses." Witnessed by Jo Kemble, Geo Green, Ann Green (daughter of Thomas Kemble, based on the previous marriage listing), and others. [1] [2]

1670 On 10 of month 3, Joseph Kemble, the son of Thomas Kemble (chandler) and wife Hannah, was born in Wentworth Street near Spittlefields. [3]

1671/72 On 14 of month 12, Joseph Kemble, the son of Thomas Kemble (chandler) and wife Hannah, was born on Hollowell Street, commonly called Shoreditch. [4]

1674 On 13 of month 4, Benjamin Kemble, the son of Thomas Kemble (chandler) and wife Hannah, was born in Shoreditch. [5]

1676 On 3 of month 3, Edward Kemble, the son of Thomas Kemble and wife Hannah, was born in Wentworth Street, Parish of Stepney. [6]

1678 On 18 of month 3, John Kemble, the son of Thomas Kemble (chandler) and wife Hannah, was born in Munmuth Street, Parish of Stepney. [7] [8]

1680/81 On 8 of month 12, Thomas Kemble, the son of Thomas Kemble (chandler) and wife Hannah, was born in Monmuth Street, Parish of Stepney, Middlesex. [9]

1680 On 4 of month 9, Thomas Kemble died in London at age "about 60 - of a feavor." [10]

In 1681 Hannah and her four sons, Samuel, Joseph, Benjamin, and Edward, immigrated to New Jersey. Two of the sons had no children; the other two, Samuel and Benjamin, married and had large families. [11]

Hannah "took up" 100 acres of land in Burlington County (New Jersey Deeds 12:8:1681/82). In February 1683/84 in Burlington New Jersey, Hannah Kemble, "widow married Benjamin Scott." Benjamin died in 1685. Hannah died 16 Oct 1697 in Burlington County NJ. The complete text of her will is in "Unrecorded Wills, Vol 5, pages 9-14, New Jersey State Library. [12]

1692 Samuel Kemble was named as a subscriber for a highway Kings Road through Wellingborrow. [13]

1697 On 23 October, the estate of Hannah Scott was settled by sons (from her first marriage) and executors Benjamin and Edward Kimball. [14]

1698 Benjamin and Edward Kemble were plaintiffs in a court case against Samuel Kemble in Burlington, NJ. [15]

1698 A judgement was awarded for Benjamin and Edward Kemble, executors of the last will and testament of Hanna Scott late deceased, against Samuel Kemble. Also discussed in 1700. [16]
