Notes for Jacob Weigel and Anna Mary Naylor

We are researching Jacob Weigle, son of Martin Weigle, whose will, dated 1804, named son Jacob as executor. A codicil dated May 3, 1816 named son Peter in his place because Jacob had died. We seek further evidence about which of these notes might relate to this Jacob Weigle, son of Martin Weigle.

1797 Sarah Weigel, daughter of Maria and Jacob Weigel, was born on December 31. She was baptized on February 2, 1798, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. [1] [2]

1810 Henry Barrick, married to Mary Barrick, late widow and relict of Jacob Weigle petitioned for guardians for her children Sarah, Margaret, Martin and Esther. David and Michael Bear were appointed. Dated September 18, at the Orphans' Court of Cumberland County. [3]

1810 Andrew Heikes and Henry Weigle, administrators of Jacob Weigle late of West Pennsboro Twp, Cumberland County, produced an account with balance $395.72. Dated December 18, at the Orphans' Court of Cumberland County. [4]

1818 Margaret and Martin Weigel, minor children of Jacob Weigel late of Cumberland County, above the age of 14, petitioned that Dietrick Ruppert be their guardians. Dated July 29.[5]

Research Notes:

"The western part of the land on which Plainfield now stands was patented to Jacob Alter in 1793 ... It was not, however, until 1812 that several parties - viz.: Jacob Weigel, blacksmith; Henry Weigel, wagon-maker ..." ... known as "Smoketown" [6]

Jacob Weigel was named as a son of Martin and Maria Margaret Opp Weigel. [7]

1864 Son John Martin Weigel died on July 12 and was buried at Neimans Cemetery, Shiloh, York County, Pennsylvania. John Martin Weigel was born on April 28, 1803. [8] [9]
