Notes for John Wright and Abigail Crispin

A review, by Donald Armstrong, of circumstantial evidence, suggests that John Wright, husband of Abigail Crispin, was a son of Samuel Curtis. [1]

1712 Joseph Lawrence and Rachel Curtis were married on December 18, at Chesterfield with consent of parents and relatives. Witnesses: Jno Wright, and others. [2]

1732 John Wright, of Burlington County, dated his will on December 1. Elizabeth Branson and her son David, that part of the saw mill I had of Thomas Fox. Personal estate of said Thomas Fox to the next six following children of Elizabeth Branson. Son. Samuel, 20 acres adjoining Thomas Earl, late widow Fox and Preserved Brown. Daughter, Mary, under age. Remainder of estate to wife, Abigail. Executors—friends, John Steward and Benjamin Kirby. Witnesses—Tho. Earl. John Marshall. Wm. Cooke. Proved Feb. 13. 1732-3. Lib. 3, p. 301. [3]

1732-3 The Inventory of the estate of John Wright, dated January 5, showed balance £356.14.3; made by Wm. Cooke and W'ill Montgomery. Includes bond payable March 1, 1729. for £100; bond of Rob't Lawrence (£15). and debts of Tho. Fox Estate and Anthony Woodward. [4]

1733 John Steward and Benjamin Kirby refusing executorship of the estate of John Wright on April 30, Abigail Wright, widow, appointed administratrix, with Benjamin Kirby and Silas Crispin of Burlington, taylor, fellow bondsmen. [5]

1733 Thomas King and Abigail Wright, administrator for John Wright, were named in the August 8 minutes of the Hunterdon County Court of Common Pleas regarding a debt of £200. [6]

1734 Abigail Wright Adm and Thomas King were named in the February 1733/34 term minutes of the Hunterdon County Court of Common Pleas regarding a debt of £32. [7]

1736 The account by Abigail Wright was dated July 2. Paid Ann Lamb. Sarah Cutler. Samuel Wright. Robert Hulitt. Wm. Coates, Thos. Hough, Mathew Champion. Joseph Arney (debt due his father. John Arney). Thos. Leonard. Wm. Cooke, Peter Bard. Thomas Dikes. David Curtis, Preserved Brown. Jun'r. Gilel Faizer. Margaret Stelle. Robert Lawrence. George Harrison. John Ryno. Samuel Lovett. Josiah White, Dan'l Smith, Thos. Harrison. Dubious debts due from Nicholas Mills, dec'd, Nich's Martineaux, who hath been many years removed to a distant colony, Rich'd Croxall. Thos. Fox. deceased, Jon. Wright (legatee), Wm. Webster. Thos. King. Thomas Lovelattey. who ran away, and Thos. Harrison. [8]

A family bible includes notes perhaps written about 1791-95, recording several descendants of this family. [9]

A family bible includes notes (which contain errors) written in the 18th century by Samuel G. Wright: "John Wright below was one of seven brothers that came from England ...John Wright of Wrightstown Burlington County father of Samuel Wright and grandfather of Caleb Wright came from England, he was a captain and a Justice of the crown of England. Abigail Crispin wife of John Wright and sister to mercy wife of Thomas Earl, the father of Taunton Earl ..." [10]

Abigail Stockton, daughter of Silas and Mary Stockton Crispin, was reported born on January 20, 1701 and married John Wright, of Springfield Twp. [11]

John Wright was reported born in West Jersey in 8 mo., 1683. [12]
