"Jonas M. Bortner, son of Michael and Catherine (Marckel) Bortner, of Shrewsbury Township, was born December 17, 1824, in Codorus Township. He received the ordinary common school education available at that day, and was reared on the farm. In February, 1849, Mr. Bortner married Catherine Bortner, daughter of Jacob and Catharine (Garwick) Bortner, of Codorus Township.". [1]
