Notes for Jarvis Stokes and Elizabeth Rogers

1753 On 10 of month 11, Jarves Stokes was born, son of John Stokes (son of John and Elizabeth Green Stokes) and Hannah Stockdell [1] [2]

1773 On 27 November, Jarves Stokes, son of John and Hannah Stogdelle Stokes, married Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of William and Martha Esturgans Rogers, both of Burlington. They had 15 children. [3] [4] [5]

1776 Jarves Stokes acknowledged marrying out, 2nd day, 12th month, Burlington. [6]

1788 Mary Stokes was born to Jarvis and Elizabeth Stokes on 18th day, 11th month, 1788. [7]

1804 On 7 February, Jarvis Stokes, of Wellingborough Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey, wrote his will. He named wife Elizabeth, sons John, Jarvis, and Joseph (not yet age 21), Stockdell (minor), Samuel (minor), Mordecai (minor), William. Daughters Martha Hains, Hannah West?, Elizabeth Harris, Mary Stokes (under age 18), Esther Stokes (under age 18), Sarah Stokes (under age 18). John inherited the plantation. Jarvis inherited the northerly adjoining our Mill Creek. Joseph inherited the southerly land adjoining brother David Stokes. William inherited the land in Northampton purchased from the estate of William Rogers. Probate 29 December, 1804. [8]

"William Stokes was born in Burlington County, New Jersey, January 14, 1779, being the fourth child and the second of eight sons of a family of sixteen, his parents being Jarvis Stokes and Hannah (Rogers) Stokes." [9]
