Research Notes:

In 2012, I wrote, [10]

Whether these later records pertain to Margery's father or to another man of the same name and profession in Stepney is not clear. No records were found for the marriages of any John Eaton to an Alice, an Agnes, or a Barbara, suggesting the possibility that the wives Alice, Agnes, and Barbara may have had origins elsewhere in England." The marriage record for John Eaton and Margaret Roades "provides no information about John's residence or profession, but St. Katherine's was located just east of the Tower of London, within easy walking distance of Shadwell. Several records of a John Eaton, smith, a John Eaton, silk weaver, and a John Eaton, mariner, were found in the registers of St. Dunstan's, Stepney, during the relevant period, but the names recorded for their wives do not include Margaret." If the John Eaton who married Margaret in 1613 at St. Katherine's and the John Eaton whose wife Margaret died in 1625 were the same man as Margery's father, John Eaton, then this Margaret would be Margery's stepmother. Perhaps Thomas and Margery Ingersoll named their daughter Margaret for Margery's stepmother.

Hal Bradley and Beth Bauchet noticed the January 1603/04 marriage of a John "Heyton" of Shadwell to Alice Gowrde in the St. Dunstan parish register and suggested that Heyton was a variant spelling of Eaton, thus identifying Alice Gowrde as the mother of Margery Eaton.
